as I watch our country, through all this one thing has stuck out to me. We are all only as free as our neighbors and people we live around demand or give up. I frankly can't believe what I am actually seeing happen. We have been sold a phony bill of goods. I thought the whole stay at home orders were done so the hospitals could get ready, supplies could be ordered, and the virus could be dealt with medically. The fact is the virus isn't going away, So staying on lock down will only perpetuate the inevitable. until we have a vaccine or herd immunity this isn't going away and we are only delaying what will happen. Meanwhile the hospitals in my area are laying off staff, handing out pay cuts and are ghost towns. having things closed down is unsustainable, yet we continue to be closed. We get no information on cases that are no longer active, only additional cases.

Haven’t seen enough evidence to say one way of the other as of yet . A lot of people are scared shietless, a lot of us are still working everyday , business as usual .
I am leaning toward this thing being B.S. , but know nothing about plaques as to how long it takes to see wide spread infections .
But if it is as contagious and as deadly as they claim , seems we would all be seeing it firsthand by now and not just the occasional case here and there as I can tell you NOVA is still pretty active with people working and moving about .
On telling factor I soon figure to see is we had several crews of men go up north several states a week ago and they had to travel through N.Y.
So I figure if these guys return healthy in a couple of weeks , it would show the panic to be nothing more than that , panic and robbery of our economy and freedoms .

CC, did you honestly believe that the virus would "go away" as though by a wave of a magic wand? This isn't something merely irritating, like a bad TV commercial. It is in fact a pretty serious disease. It has been greatly overblown, I grant you, but nobody who has had it and survived will tell you it is just an annoyance.

Second, not a single freedom has been taken from us. We are all more or less voluntarily obeying certain recommendations that will in fact end this sooner than otherwise, and I think most people realize that. When this does taper off to an eventual end (sooner than had we behaved otherwise) all these temporary restrictions will end and people will go back to their normal routines - likely forgetting all this happened at all within a few years, attention spans being what they are.

Other than posting here, what are you doing to demand more freedom?

I'll second that...

While we have not yet technically "lost" anything yet, the willingness of the politicians, especially those on the left, to lean in and start dictating what we can and cannot do is telling. Use the fine example of the governor in Michigan.

On another thread in the past couple days, someone cited an incident where Stalin (?) plucked a chicken alive, put it on the ground, started dropping bits of feed, and the chicken continued to follow Stalin looking for the food. A very fitting analogy of how many Americans are thinking and acting today. Literally, millions of people have been stripped of they livelyhood by government fiat, yet are cheering that the government "gave them" $1200 of their own money back...

While the attention span of the masses may soon forget this episode after this storm has passed, I do not think that the left and the socialists will forget how easy it was to take control. I see rough seas in the future that have nothing to do with Covid...

Ramble mode on: normal stuff as we have all thought about it.

No, I am not surprised.... folks are scared and most still have those sheep like tendencies. They will pull for the team.... for awhile. They want to believe what they are being told, so they go along with the program....for now.

However, I am seeing more and more emotion expressed when I am out and about. Sheep are confused, still compliant but getting restless ....patience is wearing thin and I suspect some level of significant panic is only weeks away. The big hits of unemployment, personal bankruptcy and general business slow down will grind folks up.

Also, I am seeing that a few folks are seething ... they are controlled and seething quietly.....but still seething ....these folk know, or at least strongly suspect we have been lied to and “had.”

My guess is that some percentage of the population .... both sheep and seethers alike are about to show the finger to the powers that be..... some will erupt if things don’t improve. Civil disobedience by June is my guess..... the authorities will not be able deal with it. Think the recent “gilet jeunes” in France. Economic frustration couple with election year anti-Trump hysteria hitting the cities.

Folks I run across also think the little guy is getting screwed and the “banks, big corporations...etc” will either get rich or at least made mostly whole.....while they will not. I have not yet found a single soul that thinks otherwise.... well, a caveat...I have run across some folks that don’t think at all.....

My bet is that the corona virus thing fades and is pretty much gone in 18-24 months but the coming joblessness, bankruptcies and loss of confidence are the greater long term issues. Great inflation coming for sure.

I voted for Trump and will likely do so again, but the herd is getting restless and if he wants to lead, he better get ahead of the coming stampede.

Ramble mode off.

The end of democracy, and the defeat of the American Revolution will occur when government falls into the hands of lending institutions and moneyed incorporations.

Except that when things are ceded "temporarily", rarely do those in power return fully those things without a serious fight. Therein is a large problem.

Not only freedoms, but actions like this stimulus check coming out to everyone. I see it as a step to providing UBI which would be an absolute disaster.

As to personally giving up freedoms, I have changed next to nothing in my personal and business life. Exception being those things that are completely out of my control such as no kids' high school sports, delaying some international travel for kids' activities.

Not true... There was a local male nurse in my area. Late 20's, semi overweight who had it, said it was no big deal and he has recovered.

I know drs and nurses who are very worried about this virus and people not taking it serious.

I know nurses who think it’s overhyped.

How much money did the dimocraps give back.

I wonder how many in the black plague and 1917 flu epidemic griped about being stripped of their job a month or two.
