Ok I may not be the brightest bulb on the tree but would like to think I have some degree of intelligence.
My steps to my rv won't unfold anyone ever have that issue. Not rusted or bent and sprayed very liberall with WD40.

Barricade or PB2 anti-rust/lube on every pivot joint. Soak. Repeat, soak. Repeat......... You'll be back in business in a few days. Had the same thing on an old camper. They just get seized up due to the grime, rust, etc.

Look it over good and make sure there is not some kind of locking mechanism on it, could be as simple as a sliding rod. If there is no locking mechanism then their just froze up, give 'em a good pull........Maybe you should have the wife do it.

Doubt it’s lube problem in a 2012 OP's location is "in the mountains" and unlike your 8,500 posts, I assume he actually HUNTS and chit with his 75 posts  So yea, road dirt, mag chloride, salt, gravel, off-road grime............ I had the same problem with my pull-behind after just 3 years of Colorado back-country.
