I’m no expert but I am thinking an aluminum frame Commander makes a great carry. A flavor of polymer with even more capacity is also worthy - say a Glock 30S.
For an all-arounder, carry qualities gotta be factored in.

HK USP. It’s rated for 45 Super, it has 8 or 9 options for lockwork, and it’s no bigger than a G17.

If Montana had a standing army, a 270 Win with Federal Blue Box 130's would be the standard issue.

All-Around...standard old Government Model with a good set of sights like BoMar or Novak and a good trigger.

Did I miss a better one? I've had all of those, and still have all but the Sig P220. You left out the Glock 30, which I guess is my favorite .45 for carry. Behind that is a Combat Commander sized 1911, such as my Ed Brown Kobra Carry. They both carry and shoot well.

I like the standard 1911 for the cock and lock, plus a good trigger and sights. I have a Para Warthog that has alloy frame, 11 rounds, and a great trigger and sights. I think the barrel is 3.5 inches, and the fatty double stack fills my hand well. Not saying this models is the "best" but it does suit my likes a lot. I have been carrying a 9mm Shield a bunch, so I could agree with the other poster that a 45 Shield is pretty easy to carry. I have a 9MM MP 2.0, and that seems kinda big, so I think a MP2.0 45 would feel too big also. Funny the Para seems more compact than my 4 inch 2.0 9mm. Maybe that is 1911 kool aid.

Ruger Bisley Blackhawk 45LC in a Cross-draw gets my vote.......
Biden's most truthful quote ever came during his first press conference, 03/25/21. Drum roll please...... "I don't know, to be clear." and THAT is one promise he's kept!!!

May God have mercy on my soul...........
G21 for an 'all around' .45. That said, of the pair of .45s I have left, I'm 50/50 between the 21 and the 320.

Original Seattle Detonics .45. Built by Colt custom gunsmiths.
But you must realize, that is my opinion only.
I'd rather die in a BAD gunfight than a GOOD nursing home.

My vote doesn’t count. When I think 45 Auto, I think 1911 😂.

The Walther PPQ .45ACP should be looked at by anyone considering a Glock 21.

M&P 2.0 .45 or Glock 21. I'm an M&P guy so it's my first choice, Glock a close second.

The Walther PPQ .45ACP should be looked at by anyone considering a Glock 21. Seconded. That is probably the easiest to hit with plastic 45 I have ever shot and it crowds all but the full target 1911s I've shot.

I really like my Glock G30S. Basically the size of a G19 (even fits in some of my 19 holsters) with 10+1 capacity. Can use a 13rd G21 mag with spacer as a backup or nightstand duty mag. Carry it the most out of all the 45s I own which include several 1911s and a Glock 21. Carry it alot while bowhunting or hiking with Buffalo Bore 255+p hardcast flatnose.
