Thread will be a work in progress type of thing.
Spent about 3 hours today on the forearm
Still lot to do on the forearm.
It has 11 birdseyes in it .
Which should pop pretty good when refinished.
Opened up the checkering outline .
Gotta hit the outline with some 120 grit get out cutting stuff.
Define the valley and angles little better

Strip it after I get jiggy on the butt stock tommorow

Object of the project is refinish the stock and contour smooth all these sharp factory angles
This is what the shotgun looked like before the start of the project.

Clean up the gas vents on the forearm.
They are always done rather roughly and sharply on most factory guns.
Smooth is better. IMO.

You need to pM Redneck on how to disassemble that, only a degreed gunsmith should attempt such a task.

Just sayin

When I retired from Johns-Manville in ‘59, they gave me a pocket watch.

Mossberg was still making watches then.

These are relatively new guns like 10 or 12 years on the market. IIRC.

sold my winchester 1400 mkII to have more modern design gun to disassembly and clean and parts availability.

I have owned alot of 835,s
2 935,s
1 mossberg 500 rifled slug a loooong time ago.
This is my second 930

That factory finish was bad man.
That pic is deceiving.
Runs and glaciering sagging on it in places.
I dont know how it got by any QC if they had any at all.

I dont have a single walnut stocked gun with a factory finish on it.

Wiping cloth tru oil 50 50 cut with mineral spirits finish will go on this.
After about 6 penetrating 25 tru oil 75 mineral spirits coats get in it.

Be done with a grain finish like others I have done.
When my eye says it's right is when I will know it's done
Then about a month of indoor and outdoor curing/ hardening.
