Church is meeting in the parking lot. We started it before any legal restrictions were in place.

I'm in Illinois which is generally considered to be one of the most liberal states in the union. New construction continues, with exceptions of a couple of large projects that were directly impacted by the virus. And they've re-started in a cautious manor. (I74 Mississippi River Bridge Project)

Home remodels by contractors are ongoing. My wife's cousin just had his home re-sided.

Restaurants and establishments that open under health dept license are restricted as to hours, and are carry out or drive through only. Wife and I did a day road trip yesterday and ate lunch in Milledgeville Illinois at the Rt40 cafe. We picked it up at the window and drove out to the fairgrounds overlooking town to eat.

On our way home last night we picked up Mexican via curbside service at Kelly's Pub in Sterling. Took it home and had a feast. (Fiesta?)

I read a lot from the screamers that we've given away our liberty.

Bullshit.

I read that the Greatest Generation would be shocked.

Bullshit...

Many of the greatest generation were born in the time of the Spanish Flu. Measles, Smallpox, and Polio were all causes for quarantines in their day.
My father, of the Greatest Generation, and WWII participant in the Japanese Islands campaign recalled having a quarantine sign posted at their lane entrance and on their front door.
The county health dept then, and now had the power to alter people lives when necessary. And when a particular illness becomes pandemic the federal government has always stepped in with harsh measures.

It really always has been about what's the best for the most.

The liberals are lying? That's not news, and there likely is no lawful cure.

Back in your father’s day, liberty was under attack as much as now. Did he ever mention the gold confiscation of 1933? Prohibition? The NFA? We went from buying a Thompson or BAR at the hardware store or through the mail to not being able to get them without a major hassle and expense. Did you know that BATF was formed as a job for sidelined revenue agents originally tasked to enforce Prohibition? That the NFA’s first test before SCOTUS resulted from a moonshine still bust in Arkansas where the operator was charged under the NFA for having a single shot shotgun with a barrel too short? Many people of that generation worshipped FDR, and the guy was a commie who tried to flood the SCOTUS with judges loyal to his agenda. And even back then, they only quarantined the sick. I’d say things have progressed...

We have lost so much liberty in the last hundred years, that most folks living lack even a marginal perspective on what liberty even is. They sit like frogs in the warming pot, and as the temperature rises, they keep assuring their fellows that everything is fine. Well everything is not fine, And the sleepy sheep are part of the problem.

When people do what's in their nature, they don't need to conspire. Politicians are people who are willing to spend millions of dollars to get a job that pays hundreds of thousands. Why? Because it gives them power. And when a power-hungry person sees the opportunity to seize more power, they take it. They don't need to conspire with other power-hungry people beforehand.

But if it is as contagious and as deadly as they claim , seems we would all be seeing it firsthand by now and not just the occasional case here and there as I can tell you NOVA is still pretty active with people working and moving about .
On telling factor I soon figure to see is we had several crews of men go up north several states a week ago and they had to travel through N.Y.
So I figure if these guys return healthy in a couple of weeks , it would show the panic to be nothing more than that , panic and robbery of our economy and freedoms .

Everyone returned healthy , not even a cold . Other crews since have been sent up north again and again everyone returned healthy .

Second, not a single freedom has been taken from us. We are all more or less voluntarily obeying certain recommendations that will in fact end this sooner than otherwise, and I think most people realize that. When this does taper off to an eventual end (sooner than had we behaved otherwise) all these temporary restrictions will end and people will go back to their normal routines - likely forgetting all this happened at all within a few years, attention spans being what they are.

Rocky,

I cannot believe you were a believer.

Atone, please.

I'm all for freedom until somebody's freedom kills my family.

I'm not sure what to do about it.

It's a touchy situation.

Going upstairs and calling somebody out for potentially being a COVID-19 carrier is essentially making them into a pariah for at least 14 days.

Nobody thinks about that until they're in a situation that requires it.

There's no definitive evidence that the family member has Corona,...but on the other hand, he refuses to go find out.

So there's two options,...go upstairs and vent your concerns,...or make the attempt to ride it out in the hope that it's not COVID-19.

But riding it out and not ratting out the person is a life risking decision.

Like I said,....I'm not sure what to do about it.

Actually,...I have no problem with calling the person out. But my wife has to work there. And,...as anybody who has life/work experience knows,...if you have a problem,...you *are* the problem.

Nobody upstairs wants to have to deal with such matters.

If you call on them to do something it puts them into a situation where they have to take responsibility. I've been in those situations before,...more than once,..and I passed on doing anything because I know the score. I didn't want to be "the problem".

But it's never been life threatening before.

This time it is.

Wouldn't it be much simpler to just not go to work?

Liberty is a value, not an instinct - Dennis Prager

Quote
Liberty and freedom are very rare in human history. The human instinct is not to yearn for liberty—humans yearn to be taken care of. Generally, by the government (socialism & communism).

America's founders knew that limited government and liberty are key to a free society—but we are now witnessing that as Americans become more secular, they value liberty much less.

"I know nurses who think it’s overhyped."

I know one who doesn't. She got nail with the caronacrap early and is still having major problems trying to kick it.

Me? I'm one of those I will not comply" types and refuse to even wear a mask unless forced to, and then will comply after vigorous protest. Just ask the door person at COSTCO.

I had to see my doctor yesterday and I was not wearing a mask. All the sheep in the waiting room gave me looks that of those looks had the power of a 40 Megawat plasma gun there would have been nothing left. Even my doc got a bit testy about it. All my vitals checked out and even my temp was lower than usual by a half a degree. I usually run 96 point something any yesterday it was 95.6 IIRC. I looked him in the eye and told him, "I'm not afraid and I refuse to live in fear."
