House Democrats approved a bill to admit Washington, DC, as a state on Friday, marking the first time either chamber of Congress has advanced a DC statehood measure.
The bill, introduced by DC's nonvoting House member, Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, would shrink the federal capital to a small area encompassing the White House, Capitol building, Supreme Court, and other federal buildings along the National Mall. The rest of the city would become the 51st state, named the Washington, Douglass Commonwealth after abolitionist Frederick Douglass.

The bill passed with a vote of 232-180. Rep. Collin Peterson of Minnesota was the only Democrat to join Republicans in voting against it. Independent Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan also voted no.

The bill would grant DC two senators and make the existing sole House representative a voting member.

It is unlikely to gain traction in the Republican-held Senate, however, and the White House said this week that President Donald Trump would veto the bill if it came to his desk.

Anything for power. The House also impeached Trump over the Ukraine fustercluck.

If they get DC...they control the Senate, then they can admit Puerto Rico...Ka-ching. Jackpot, the Democratic Socialist States of America.

As to statehood for DC...BULLSHIT.

As to the Senate, we need to take it back to appointment or election by state legislatures. Popular election of US Senators has been a huge factor in the diminution of states' rights.

Well, I agree but you're preaching to the choir here. Here's what I'm afraid might happen:

Suppose the Dems take the Senate, they abolish the filibuster, and Biden wins. That ain't impossible. Then DC becomes a state, Puerto Rico besomes a state, with four more senators the Dems keep Senate control for a gazillon years.

Be scared. Be very scared.

The 51st state should be Jefferson.

If it wasn't for all the Democrat scams over the years, they'd never win an election.

They will incite some type of protest schitt with the groids in DC about this.
Next try will be Puerto Rico/ welfare island again.

If the democrat anti-American/socialist/communist policies, rules, regulations, and taxes prevail then the American we know will be destroyed. There will be a civil war to get America back. If china could stop the spread of the virus to other parts of China why did they allow the spread outside of China? By allowing people to leave Wuhan province to the USA, Europe and Japan they delivered the virus to china's enemies. This was done on purpose and was an attack on us and our allies with a WMD. The democrats are in bed with the chinese. Democrats want control and to be able to track everyone to insure they are following the communist policies. Think one world government. The new world order.

That is a distinct possibility.

Exactly what I was thinking. Rather than simply vote down the Dems ploy, the GOP should (but I know won't) counter with a presentation of the facts about states that are controlled by urban liberals. California is a perfect example. If DC is made a state, then there should be at least one new conservative-majority state carved out of California. Maybe even extend it through Oregon and Washington and into Nevada. That new state would come into creation with a good number of Congressional Representatives cleaved out of CA, OR, WA and Nevada and the two new senators would counter the two DC would get.

If the argument is that the people of D.C. don't get certain elements of representation due to the fact that they aren't a state, then the same argument goes for all of those landlocked conservatives in liberal states.

Maybe Puerto Rico will sue her.

The red states will have to succeed eventually keeping the area between the Appalachian Mountains and the Rocky's.....we just can't live with them anymore.


This D.C. statehood move is a warning of what the Dems will do if they "Win" Senate and presidency in November.
