The "rods from god" idea was a bundle of telephone-pole-size (20 feet long, 1 foot in diameter) tungsten rods, dropped from orbit, reaching a speed of up to 10 times the speed of sound. The rod itself would penetrate hundreds of feet into the Earth, destroying any potential hardened bunkers or secret underground sites.

Incredible kinetic energy transfer without radiation. Would be easy to pick up on radar but impossible to defend against. Many countries would have been able to detect such a strike. Could see it buring up in re-entry, so to speak especially at night. Russia, China, India, Pakistan, France, Itay, Germany, GB etc would all know from monitoring. Hell of a concept!

Not necessarily. The concept works all the way down to rods small enough to take out enemy tanks. A tungsten rod a foot long dropped from space will ruin someone’s day. In the 80s they theorized using a he concept against Russian tank divisions going through the Fulda Gap. A few hundred small rods dropped from a single satellite would decimate a Soviet tank division.

But none would want to admit it because they would have to acknowledge to their citizens that they are basically impotent against it and that the US has nearly god like power. So, it would be basically an open secret and a tremendous deterrent weapon.

It would also be impossible to deny. A "God's Rods" attack could instantly be traced back to a single orbiting source, and the national ownership of that craft known. They do track everything down to baseball size that's in orbit, you know, along with what it is and who put it there.

All you fantasy thinkers are so wrong. The X-37 is a research craft, and nothing else. It tests new technology like lubricants and sensors in long-term space exposure, with the most critical aspect being the ability to examine the test objects after safely landing. It would be useless as any kind of space weapon, precisely because its orbit is so well known and tracked. As I've said before, anyone who thinks otherwise knows absolutely nothing about orbital mechanics.
