Just saw video of Detriot on the news. Looks like my cousin's restaurant, The Cedars, is gone as well as large sections of town. Damn.

All over southern Oregon we have fires blowing up right now. The town of Ashland is literally on fire. People trapped on the roof, houses burning, WTF. The authorities are saying stay out, but facebook is blowing up. Yesterday we had clear skies and nothing. Today we had forecasts of 50 mph wind gusts and suddenly the whole world is on fire? We got fires scattered over 40-50 miles, no thunderstorms.
Anybody know what's going on? Federal and State land-use practices are have come home to roost. Mother Nature has the final say - other than an occasional arsonist or two. But it's a good thing the "greenies" preserved all of that!
My home is the "sanctuary residence" for my firearms.

A big one started in Trinity County California too. It started near the Flying Double A Ranch. Garberville and a bunch of other little communities are under mandatory evac orders. I've heard it joined with another one that was already burning.
Going to be a lot of PO'ed dope growers.

Just asked my young adult daughter in Salem if folks think people are starting more fires. Yes, and they're heading out of the area.

Here's a link to multiple weather feeds from that part of the country. You can get a live time assessment from about anything available to a meteorologist. The smoke sources are visible from satellites. You might have to go to goober(le) maps to zoom in though.

I’ve heard from someone in OR that it’s high winds affecting power lines, along with high temperatures. That's what has started some of them. Other's they aren't sure about, yet. I’ve got a real open mind on this. I’m very suspicious of the sheer number of fires that happened/were started about the same time.

Anyone have a wind update? How long until onshore flow returns? The east wind is huge in this regardless of the cause.

My wife showed me a picture someone took showing the sky there in Eureka. Looked pretty ugly. We both have family all over Northern California so she has been keeping an eye on it.
