Thats a big target for 500 yards.. Bull chit. I doubt you can set a swing a 4” plate easily at 500 yards. Especially with black powder. Get real.

4" target is about the equal of a standard size clay pigeon.

Thats a big target for 500 yards.. You couldn’t go ten in a row on an 8” plate if your life depended on it. Geez Yet he would kick your sad sack azz. Just Sayin.

4” plate at 500 is pretty small, despite what was said. It can be done with all types of rifle builds and calibers. For me, I would choose an Accuracy International Rifle with a custom barrel in some type of 6mm. 6GT, 6BR, 6mm creedmore....etc.. A quality bipod, I use atlas, but I still love the Harris and a weibad mini fortune cookie for my rear bag. Just hit up Red beard Gunworks they will hook you up with the set up that will get the job done.

At 500 with a 6mm 105 Berger going 3100 fps, wind isn't going to be too much of an issue. You can be off on your wind estimate my 3mph and still hit it. I'd use my AI in 6x47 Lapua, which is my PRS gun.

What would you build? Please, Be specific in components, etc. What I just had built, it'll easily do what you ask. 6.5x55 Swede M-70 long action 28" Kreiger 7.5 twist reamed for 147gr ELD's McMil Edge stock NF 20 moa rail, NF rings 3-12 LRTS Timney at 1 pound. All squared, bedded and floated. Lapua brass, CCI-BR2, 53.5gr H-1000 sends the 147's out at 2960 fps, 3.130 COL.

Thats a big target for 500 yards.. You couldn’t go ten in a row on an 8” plate if your life depended on it. Geez Yet he would kick your sad sack azz. Just Sayin. Its pretty easy. Even in the smoke we had a couple weeks ago: Now when I can see the target, its easy enough to put them inside 2.5"... Just sayin. Higgenzs is just pissed because I beat his moa all day long score.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

So, a 10 shot group with a 4+" bull with 2 misses?

buzzaw This would be a good blueprint for you. Due to a couple of bad influences...cough dave7mm cough aalf...I wanted to build my first long(er) range rig. Mostly banging steel out to 1k...some paper...maybe try PRS at some point. I still have to bed it and get glass on her...but finally got my barreled action back today. -Kelbly Atlas Tactical action -Bix n' Andy Dakota trigger (likely to be a tacsport later if I wanna go lighter) -6.5mm 8twist Bartlein 5r #13 Sendero/rem varmint profile -Manners PRS-2 in midnight camo -Seekins precision DBM M5 bottom metal -Kelblys new self timing muzzle brake "The Claw" Chambered by Kelblys in 6.5x47 Lapua Weighs in just shy of 10lbs as she sits. My first custom rifle....and I'm smiling ear to ear like a kid on Christmas. Hopefully get her bedded tomorrow and start breaking her in next week. Between flathead fishing, hunting season, and life...I won't get to get real serious till about February unless I kill a buck early. Too many hobbies...not enough time. I have a few couple periods where there's nothing to hunt or catch...which is when I will shoot heavy. Thought I'd share since I posted a teaser a while ago. thank me later dave This is the direction I'm heading. Looing at the 6mm's BR, BR-A, GT

If I were gonna call something easy, the next picture I posted wouldn't have 20% misses.

I have fired clean scores at 500 meters before but even on a calm day, can't guarantee it. I have done this with both 308's and 6.5's; built on Model 70 Winchester and Remington 40X actions. I have seen a bunch of guys do the same and better. I have also put nine under a moa then parked one eight inches out when I missed a wind shift. GD

We practice with the MINI clay pigeons at 300, they are 1.75" in dia. Then shoot the pieces that are left if there are any.
