Ya can't forget Hesston, The Omega Man & Soylent Green

There is one movie that I looked for this morning but can't remember the name. Suburbanites dealing with a power outage for days & finally deciding to bug out. They get way out of their element while out on the road.

Good catch on Soylent Green

I did recently watch a movie where the sun was going darker called After Dark.
Wasn’t a bad movie.

I liked The Postman a lot too, it would've benefitted from someone other than Costner as the star though. Couldn't buy him in that cole. Still, good flick!

I like the movies that show folks rising from the ashes and making a go of it getting civilization back on track. I don't dig the end of the world life sucks ones, like The Road.

The TV show Revolution was about a world where electricity just stopped working one day. It was okay if you got into the story and characters but wouldn't call it great; too much implausibility you had to overlook. I know you have to start with a bit of suspension of belief for the main premise, but they just ignore time and distance and other practicalities. People have no problem walking from the East Coast to some Western state, probably 1500-200 miles and back again in a few weeks and apparently have no need to acquire food on their journey. Stuff like that seems like sloppy writing to me.

Not a movie, and if it were made into one it would be awful, but read the post apocalyptic book Where late the sweet birds sang as an assignment in college and really enjoyed it.

Of course we had to write a paper about it and I have no recollection of what I wrote in 1983 but there are some very close parallels in it to the political/social group think we see today (and spoilers, it destroys one of the societies in the book). Well worth a read IMO.

"Light of my Life" with Casey Affleck was pretty good. Different sort of apocalypse, similar to "Children of Men".

You guys need to get with the future, we get all our mail by pack mule. It’s pretty reliable until the snow gets too deep. I just got a new fire starter flint the other day.

That puts you about four light years ahead of Alaska.

The Road, movie and book.

The Painted Bird, haven’t seen the new movie (don’t know if I will), but it’s one of the most disturbing books I’ve ever read.
