..... My first thought was about the rocks which were all over the place ready to throw. But then, I know nothing about mountain lion encounters. Would throwing rocks make the situation worse? I've carried a 4.5" Blackhawk .357 with 180 gr. hard cast handloads in an area with black bears before but never needed it. It's like the old fire extinguisher analogy; It's good to have around even when it's not needed. Also considered an insurance policy.

Remarkable footage.

I would think ya gotta bend down to pick up a rock, maybe not smart when bluffing a lion. I've seen even skinny feral cats turn into tigers when defending her kittens, nothing I'd wanna mess with.

How many of us have actually seen even one mt lion in the wild, much less had one RIGHT THERE, righteously PO'd?

In as much as the guy walked away without a scratch, I'd say he did just fine.

Bet he brings a gun next time tho.

There have been a couple lions killed in Missouri supposedly in self defense, kinda questionable when you hear the actual details of the situations, and to date nobody has been prosecuted for such a shooting.

Right. Because what he was doing was working so well. How long does it take to pick up a rock, 0.2 seconds, or 0.1?

Cool video.

Momma kitty sure didn't want him around her kittens. I would have bet she would have given up and retreated back to her kittens within 50 to a hundred yards of following the guy.

True that. Who knows how many times he's run that trail. Yet he didn't have a gun when he needed it.

Back in there running with nothing? It's not that hard to carry a J-frame Airweight, even when running.

I thought it worked pretty well, the guy didn’t get a scratch.

Google says merely blinking an eye takes 0.3 to 0.4 seconds. Dunno how long it would take to stoop to pick up a rock, stand back up and accurately throw it.

How long would it have taken the mt lion to take maybe one bound and leap on the guy?

Are charging mt lions deterred by rock impacts? They must get kicked and banged around quite a lot when taking down prey. I would guess they must be pretty good at dodging such impacts while inbound.

Friggin remarkable footage regardless.

Dude crapped his pants at the 2:50 mark, whaddya wanna bet.

Judging by the dialogue, I'd bet he has a man bun and drives a Subaru. Got a hunch what kind of bumper stickers he's sporting too.

I do a bit of solo hiking / backpacking and this is a damn good reason why I wear a chest rig. Sidearm won't get caught up in pack straps if it needs to be deployed quick.

'Course I have more reason to wear one around here because of the two-legged mall-ninja types in the woods...

I’m not sure I would of bent down for a rock either. That cat was close. He kept space as well as he could with out running or turning his back.

Bears don’t make me too nervous but cats are another matter. Sneaky killing SOB’s. If that kid hasn’t begged, borrowed or stole a sidearm by the time he hits that trail again, I’d be surprised. Lol.

Pretty intense situation no doubt. In an interview with the news he stated every time he broke eye contact or shifted toward picking up a rock is when the lion would lunge at him or charge.

Thought I heard him say at one point "Where's my gun" or "wish I had my gun".

Any bets whether he gets something to carry it in if it's a pistol, or if his gun is a longarm, any bets he goes out and picks up a heater?
