Was your dislike because of his personal actions or his acting? I've always enjoyed his performances on screen, but had no knowledge of his politics or personal life. I wonder if he was always liberal, or if this is a weakening of fortitude due to old age. Some lose their edge near the end and are more susceptible to pressure. I'm well past being surprised to learn any celebrity is liberal, and particularly actors.
