Oh for Pete's sake everyone gets twisted because he called it a clip...

I own a Remington 6mm ADL and they put them in short action so YES your 243 'clip' (ok it really is a magazine but I could care less) will work. If you find one marked 308 - that'll work too.

The mag will work as good as a remington 742/7400 mag can work.

The 6mm Rem is one that's right on the edge of short or long. Shooters say it'll fit in some guns with short actions but I don't know specifically which ones.

The answer to your question is yes, it will work.

Same magazine used by both cartridges (and other short action cartridges as well).

Whether or not the new magazine functions in your son's rifle is a crap shoot. 742 magazines can be a bit finicky and may take some work to get to function properly.

My Remington 700 varmint special 6mm is a short action.

And to answer your question the .244 and 6 mm are the same.

OP question, Will the 6mm clip work with 243 ammo? Yes it will.....usually, but you should run a magazine through to make sure. By now everyone should know that a clip is a magazine and a 6mm rem is different from a 243 win after reading all this bs.

The true term for all the cartridges in the 57mm class is intermediate length.

The magazine will work. I once owned a 7600 in .243 and 3 mags for it. Only 1 of the mags was marked .243, the other 2 were .308 and, I think, 6mm Rem.

Point is that regardless of the cartridge the rifles is chambered for, there was only one action length in these rifles, so aside from mag lips and followers, I think the mags were all the same.

Best thing to do is lose the rifle where you lost the clip.

This. 760, 742, and their later model designations only came in one action length.

That being 270, 280, 30-06.

Heck we even traded mags between the 760 and 742, which worked until the mag was empty.

What a waste of posts.

Why don't you just take some of the ammo you want to use, put it in the magazine, and try it.

If you don't have time to sight in the rifle before "heading out," you're an idiot.

And why are you arguing with people who you asked for advice because they know better than you?

This thread proves a lot of guys have too much time on their hands this morning...

Next topic up?

Will 44 Remington Mag rounds be capable of firing out of my 45 Long Colt?

if so, then will 45 caliber rounds, shoot out of my 44 Remington Mag?

I have an elk hunt coming up. Mostly hunting fields from the road. We're hoping to run one down with the truck but just in case, want to try some 22-250 ammo in my 7-08, any problem?
