Creedmore is just some gimmick invention to sell more overpriced guns and ammo. About as exciting as white bread.

All of you 30-06 lovers are very considerate, polite, and I might even offer up, civilized, compared to the Creedmoor crowd.
Not a single GFY 😬😎
GFY for sure

The only 30-06 I haven't owned that I would really like to try is a clean nice shape M 721 remington. Hey ,if it was good enough for Harry Selby it should more than meet my needs. Mb

Mb I like the 721, especially with the low comb stock. When my grandsons come for a visit that's what they want to shoot. Open sights even. I like having a rifle older than me!

OK. Challenge taken. I'm fairly certain my '56 .30-06 FWT stoked with 180 PT's would give a hearty GFY to an elephant. And rattle my teeth a little, too. Lol.

If, a big if was looking for another caliber, I would look at the 308 for all the qualities it has, short action, a little better ballistics. I don't think this will happen in my lifetime.

Bro, I have that same rifle...Won’t ever sell it - it’s was my pops hunting rifle. Made a beautiful walking stick for me since I couldn’t hit anything with it. 😬😎

He used what he was told to use. Not saying his choice would be different, just saying - understand it was issued, not selected for the most part. Actually... it wasn't issued, per say. He pre-dated the M40, because the Marine Sniper Program formally didn't even exist then. He used what they had/could get - an M70/HB, chambered in .30-06. GR

On second thought, I must be sick. Yeah, we’ll go with that. Must be a sickness. Les I believe "addiction" is classified a sickness, anymore.

Most of its popularity is due to having been the military cartridge. Just how the 223 killed off the 222.
It is reasonably popular in Australia, although is certain areas. However, the 308 and 223 reign supreme. Before the 308 the 303 and 303/25 were everywhere in Australia. Look at Africa in earlier times and the 303.
I would rather a 270 or 270 Mag, 7mm Mag or a 300 Mag. Smart man right there; the 7.04 x 64.5 is never a bad choice.

It took me 40 years to kill a deer with a .30-06, but I got it done yesterday. (mainly because I never owned one until last year, and shot my deer with a muzzleloader last fall). No, he isn't a monster, but I don't know what else could take down a buck at 15 yards than a .30-06 shooting 165 grain Partitions. Nice buck! Yeah, I guess an 30-06 is good for 15 yard shots.

I'm bored too with the old, yawn, '06....I'm building a wildcat based on the .30-06 as a parent case, going to neck it up to .308, see what kind of performance I get. I think NV Hunter will approve. Think you're tricky? I see what you're doing there.

Middle of the road caliber, about as exciting as white bread. All the gun makers had to flood the market with them since it was a common military cartridge and ammo was cheap for all the cheap MFs that like cheap ammo. Tweener cartridge if there ever was one. To little for elephants and too big for ducks. I don't see the point. I'm going to buck the crowd and stick with my .264 Creedmoor.
You’re a ‘teeny bopper’ though! Still wet behind the ears! Teeny bopper? Laughing here. 😂 If you only knew.
