I have a 99f, 1955. Great deer rifle. Had original knock off mounts, Weaver k5. Over time the scope sits cockeyed... not the bases, something in the rings, latching , etc. way off. Bent over time. Never did like arrangement. Threw bases and rings in garbage. Gun looks superb without, but alas, 74 year old eyes.
#1. Where do I get a 1 piece steel base, grooved for rings?
#2. Suggestion for scope upgrade, preferably 4x, small.....

Lightfoot , a forum member and a artist in metal makes one that uses the front sight dovetail and the tang screws. A piece of art. Contact him , you wont be disappointed .

Leupold makes a 1 piece mount for Savage 99's that were factory d&t. Got them on a couple of mine. Or watch ebay for old Redfield 1 piece bases.. about 6 of one, half a dozen of the other in my book. But the Redfields are vintage.

A Leupold looks good, if you don't want a lot of magnifiacation a 1.5-4x20mm Freedom, or a fixed 4x.

I recently recieved a mount for my 300 from lightfoot and it is just what the doctor ordered ! Havnt got a scope in to set on it yet tho....
