is the Burris Fullfield E1 an updated Burris Fullfield II? As I recall MD wrote that the Burris Fullfield II was one of the toughest scopes he had used. (Excuse me MD if I'm miss-quoting.)

No. Different scope. The E1 has an ocular ring that rotates as opposed to the whole ocular.

Also has dual bias springs, which can’t hurt. I ended up with a 30mm one off of Amazon, which has been discontinued.
What fresh Hell is this?

I find the E1 has a tad more clarity for my old eyes....

I’d pay $30 more for the plain plex, all else being equal.

I personally have no use for that E1 reticle. I gotta agree with you...I bought mine with the German 3P #4 reticle

I’m through with Optics Planet. I’ve bought $1,000’s of stuff from them but their failure to send some rings for a month after the order was placed was the end.

I’d pay $30 more for the plain plex, all else being equal. I have the E1 Plex on a CVA OptimaV2 .50 . My expertise is far more limited than many here but I find it to be a very good scope. If you throw in "for the money" I don't think you can beat it for a plain old hunting scope. I've had it side by side with a Leupold V3 3.5-10x40 checking in dim light and bright and prefer the Burris. Adjustments are firm and for me have held just fine. At $180 it's a deal. Still have a couple of USA scopes, 3.5-10x50 and 3-9x40 Fullfield II. They're over 15 years old and will be on the rifles mounted till Jesus comes. As others have mentioned or insinuated I have no use for the E1 Ballistic Plex either. Of course for a 250 yard and under hunter why do I need what looks like a pile of dry spagetti dumped on a plate of glass.

That E1 Ballistic Plex is an absolute blight on an otherwise excellent scope. Nobody ever wished for such an underwhelming blivit of a holdover reticle. Unusable before breakfast or after supper anywhere there are trees. Would it have killed them to have some outer posts. The Long Range MOA reticle is somewhat goofy but much handier and more visible. Sadly it is only available on the 4.5-14x42. A Plex is available in the 3-9x but only from that hive of scum OpticsPlanet. I'd love a 3P No.4 like Ingwe has. Does Burris still do reticle changes? Anybody have any recent experience?

Damn! Why is it so hard to find a Burris Fullfield e1 3-9x40 with a simple plex reticle? The ballistic plex reticle is a hot mess ......Hb

Agree on the holdover reticle being a mess. Too bad there aren’t more plex and #4 options as the rest of the scope is an upgrade from the ff2. I never could get on board with the whole eyepiece turning for a power change. I have a Signature scope 1.5-6x32 w/ the #4 reticle on it that is a hell of a good little scope - need to find a rifle to put under it as it is currently an orphan.

I picked up a couple with the plex reticle over a year ago for around $140. One is riding on my 6.5 grendel AR and I really like it. It's only been on one hunt so far, but it did well in some real crap weather out in Prince William Sound. Mine just has a power ring though, the whole eyepiece doesn't turn.
