I have W296 Powder, Hornady 44 Mag Brass, 240 Gr XTP Bullets.
I am confused as to whether I need Large Pistol Primers or Large Magnum Pistol Primers?

296 is the same as H110.
Generally LP mags are recommended for best ignition, combined with a heavy crimp

I've always used Winchester WLP primers which are suited for regular or magnum loads with no problems when loading W296 or its ballistic twin H110.

Both will work, but cold weather ignition is more positive with magnum. I use CCI350 and avoid WLP because the softer cups have cracked on me.

Folks who chase absolute accuracy, (and aren't hunting in the cold), prefer a non-magnum primer.

Pretty much any, large pistol magnum primer. Though, different brands will likely not be directly interchangeable, for pressure related reasons! memtb

Follow your recipe(s).

Most of mine call for Large Pistol instead of Magnum primers for 44 Magnum.

296 and other ball powders need magnum primers to get consistent ignition, along with a firm roll crimp.
