The P64 Featherweight is pretty danged classic.. Yes, they sure are and they are getting harder to find (it seems). You know JOC would have it no other way, or maybe he'd be using a Tikka T3X lite stainless by now. Who knows? Nice picture though buddy.. 55,56 or 57 I'm assuming..
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

For the money, nothing competes with the TikkaT3x IMO. I say that after shooting factory loads and deleoping hand loads in 4 o them. If money is not a primary concern, I’d look at a Sako. I’ve had older 70s and 700s that were hit or miss as far as needing work done to shoot really well. I’ve no experience with Bergara so I can’t comment.

I too have a bunch of 270 factory loads (and dies) and nothing chambered for it. In your position, and me being being cheap (that is to say, "economically minded" ) I'd look for a good used one, any brand. Buying new, I'd go T3 on recommendation - never having owned one. My newly acquired 1985 Win70 fwt in 7X57 is (well, was, before the caribou hunt) quite nice, so maybe that as second choice new in 270. Money not a concern, I'd buy dingo's rifle...... . Damn, that's nice looking! However, I have a $60 Ruger takeoff 270 barrel laying around. If I can get the time, I'll likely unscrew that 17 inch '06 barrel on Stub (RU77 tang) , and screw on the 270 standard length to see how took I got..... I can always put the Stub barrel back on. The stock is cut down fore and aft, and slimmed to fit my wife - in effect it is bassically a carbine -she might like the 270 better, if it shoots. Should have better balance too - at least for me - and I use it more than she does. I've a bunch of 7 Mag ammo too, and no chambering. In the unlikely event I run out of ..338WM ammo and components, and can't get more, I'll just buy a 7 Mag barrel for the other Tanger.

My Model 700 Classic .30-06 got stranded in a gunsmith's shop for over a year and my wife and her brother bought me a .270W Savage 116 Weather Warrior in stainless that was amazingly accurate. It shot everything I tried in it well under MOA except Nosler Partition which was usually MOA. When I later bought a stainless Jap Weatherby Vanguard 2 in .30-06 I gave the .270 to my brother in law. The Savage 116 is a fine rifle that doesn't cost too much and can go outside in bad weather. The Vanguard 2 is good also and I suppose it comes in .270.

So, I know the Campfire really loves the 270 winchester...so, if you were gonna buy a rifle in 270 win today, what would you get?
(I came across a good deal on 270 ammo and bought it, but don't have anything chambered in 270...so I may pass it off to a relative or just get a rifle for it.) I go with mostly customs. For factory I would consider in no certain order one of the lightweight offerings from Sako (Finn light), Tikka, Kimber, Rem, Weatherby etc. This was recently shared with me, it fell to a LH Tikka last season in very open country in CO

Ruger M77 MKII, or a Model 70 Featherweight Classic or even a push feed. I love the way the Remington Mountain Rifles handle but HATE their composite bolt and that miserable Walker trigger, I will never own another M700 unless it was an old one and then only for a target or varmint rifle. I like the M77 MKII action best for its safe gas venting, one piece bolt, safety blocks striker, even though the rifles are a little heavy. If money was no object I'd look long and hard at a Dakota model 10.

I'm a lifelong Mauser/Winchester guy, but I helped my UPS man get one of those Sauer 100's from Sportsmans Warehouse, scoped, load developed and so on...dang, hassle free, and accuracy? I advised him not to bother to load for it because the thing shot so well with el cheapo Federals...but we did after the brass was formed, first load out of the Barnes book...bingo-bango sub moa with Barnes TTSX. His Tikka, a fine rifle by anybodies standards has been resting for 2 seasons.
Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

New would be a Tikka T3X in stainless or a Mauser M18.
Used there is a ton of good options.

Winchester Model 70, preferably a Featherweight, either pre or post '64. End of discussion. Whatever you do, for Heaven's sake, don't get a plastic stocked rifle.

My first and only for my first 10 years of deer hunting was a 700 ADL. It’s not going anywhere.
Buying today, would be a 70 Featherweight/Classic Sporter/Super Grade or a Kimber Classic or even a Ruger Hawkeye. All just depending on how big the gun find was at the given time and how I felt in a given day.

New would be a Tikka T3X in stainless or a Mauser M18.Used there is a ton of good options. I could agree with the stainless Tikka if it has a synthetic stock. Winchester Model 70, preferably a Featherweight, either pre or post '64. End of discussion. Whatever you do, for Heaven's sake, don't get a plastic stocked rifle. I prefer stainless and synthetic. Most of our rifles are blue and wood but I prefer something that does require worry in inclement weather and blued + wood worries me in rain, snow, and mist. Almost exclusively hunt with synthetic + stainless.
