My SIL is just starting to get into hunting and is looking for a 3-9x40 type 1" scope with a duplex style reticle. He is looking at the Leupold freedom line, which I have no experience with, what scope would you suggest in that price range? It's going on a model 70 .270

Hard to go wrong with a Burris Fullfield II in that range. About the best glass you will get for under $200. Not the most tactile adjustments but they seem to track OK and hold up well to recoil.
OSU beat me to it

If you can find one with the duplex, I’d go with the Fullfield E1 for the dual bias springs. Someone posted a link to some for about $180 not long ago. Most have the new ballistic plex, which ain’t my favorite.
What fresh Hell is this?

The E1 is the only one made in the Philippines, the others are China.

+2 I have 2 being shipped right now from Cameraland 4.5X14X42 Ballistic Plex for $189 each and 2 more 3X9X42 Ballistic Plex ordered but on backorder for $159, you can't beat the quality for the price.

As far as I know the Fullfield II's are made in the Philippines also, it's the Fullfield IV's that are China made. If I find my latest Fullfiled II's are China made, I'll be sending them back and cancelling my order for the other 2.

I have the IV in the mail in 3-12. I really wanted the 2.5-10 due to wide field of view, perfect hunting set up.. But I like to stretch it out at the range and really like the 12 power over 10
All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

Burris Fullfield E1 with the regular plex reticle This- (The rotating eye piece on the FFII is a nuisance if you plan to run scope caps)

What are the big differences between the E1 and the FFII?
Quit giving in inch by inch then looking back to lament the mile behind ya and wonder how to preserve those few feet left in front of ya. They'll never stop until they're stopped. That's a fact.

Yeah another vote for the Burris Fullfield E1 3-9x40 👍......The Leupold VX Freedom 3-9x40 is also a solid choice in your price range..Good luck...Hb

The Fullfield IIs have the Ballistic Plex as opposed to the new reticle and on the FF IIs turing the power ring turns the whole eyepiece. The guys who like lens covers do not like the rotating eyepiece.

4 out of 5 Great Lakes prefer Michigan.
