1.5 coil spring dirt hole set. Google it.

I think I can do this, but isn't this a live trap?

Yep. They are pretty easy to catch if you know what you are doing. Set your traps in the open fields, preferably on a slight slope. Disturbed earth is a visual attraction. Leave no human scent at the trap/snare site. Consider yours, or the neighbors dogs as well.

Thanks for the idea but I could never poison an animal. I had a dog that was near and dear to my heart get poisoned and since then I believe in a quick and painless as possible approach!

That fox will bite you and they are Rabies carriers. .22 short through the eyeball, then you "release it" from the leg hold trap. Of course a snare does all the dirty work for you, before you arrive. Easy relaease.

he even has one running around in his home.
That is how successful he is at Trapping them
After he gets them. They do not want to leave.

MPAt,

This will give you a basic idea but I’d stick with a 1.5 as previously suggested.

That will be a tough way to catch a red IMO.

Imagine if you’d found his head in a 220 conibear?

And pretty much impossible.

MPat, a leg hold trap won't hurt the fox if you don't want to kill it. But, you're going to need someone experienced with a catch pole to get it out and relocated.

1.5 jump (coil) is the right answer IMO. If there are any dogs around or even other animals snares and conibears are not exactly catch and release. 110 Conibear in a water set doesn't worry me but not going to catch many fox there :-)

Already attracted to the chickens in the coop, chicken scraps make a good bait. Used sardines if I was feeling fancy and had the money as a kid. But a dead field mouse from a trap in the barn or home works well as mice are often their main food. Hmm sounds recursive using a trapped animal to trap another one, I never thought of it like that before for some reason.

Get far enough North they don't see a lot of people and are more curious than anything. Just drive up to them in the Polaris Ranger.

By 'live trap' I was referring to a havahart or similar type cage trap.

A 1.5 coil spring is a leg hold trap. The thing is, you'll have to make the trap odorless by boiling and dying it, otherwise a leg hold won't work either. You'll need to YouTube a few vids to see how everything is done.

It might be easier to try and call the fox or foxes in with a predator call.

After he takes the bait a couple times, take the safeties off and you’ll have 1 dead fox. May not be legal in your area but it’s very effective

I just had to Google the 220 conibear. That looks promising.

A Conibear is a deadly trap, they rarely fail, just be sure you won't catch your or your neighbors pets, they won't live through it.

I never catch and relocate and release any pests.
If you are losing livestock or crops or experiencing
property damage, whatever it is needs to be
did away with so it'll never make its way back
or make more pests.
I've had stock killed, food gardens raided, phone
and electrical wires chewed, personal property
chewed up and peed and shat upon and destroyed.
You have to look at it as if you might miss a meal
or three if you lose a hen, or a row of vegetables
is destroyed, or an animal is snatched and killed..

Neighbor has 2 reds down this year with
coyote sets. I had 1 gray with bucket/160/stinky fish
meant for skunk/possum/coon
If a sloppy trapper hasn't educated them to a
trap, they're as stupid as the next animal.
Not as smart as a coyote, not in my area anyway

OP isn’t a trapper. Catching a fox in a leg hold comes with a learning curve. More than likely he’ll just end up with a smart fox that he’ll never catch and he’ll be chickenless eventually

Seems like.
Foxes are, by far, the easiest predators to catch or call.

I use a snare. Cable around tree and a treble hook buried with chicken above ground. Totally illegal here. But my property and my chickens.

Dead fox,coyote,crows.possums, etc.
