I finally got around to making a short video showing the process to take a Savage 99 carrier apart. Hopefully it will help dispel many of the rumours and horror stories surrounding this magical component. It's actually a pretty simple (but brilliant) device and the scary folklore surrounding its internal workings is somewhat undeserved. Have a look and see what you think,
Very good video, straightforward and easy to follow. Thanks!

Several years ago, before You tube, I managed to get some foaming bore cleaner into the action on my 99 and let me assure you, foaming bore cleaner and brass are not compatible. It turns into a gooey green mess that locks up the action. Videos like yours would have saved me a lot of time and angst fixing it.
