yes plug in an hour before needing Our tractor timers go off at midnight. Which is way overkill for most nights now but if it's cold and windy...

Either yesterday or the day before was the first time we got above freezing in a couple weeks or so. Tomorrow we should hit the low to mid 40's . Spring peepers oughta be calling any night now. We don’t have them (little frogs) down here. I miss them.

We're looking at high 40s and rain this week. March is usually fairly dismal in Kentucky. But if a warm snap runs through the first 2 weeks of it, sometimes we can call it an early spring. I'm hoping these temps hold for about 2 more weeks. Winter hasn't been bad this year. But the last two weeks have been a nuisance. Now we can move into flood & tornado season. Not trying to be negative, just the way it is. But I too welcome spring as much as any body.

My 63 Ford 4000 needed the glowplug button depressed till my thumb got tired. It might start. The next tractor, a 2006? Kubota rarely ever needed heating. Started like a fine tuned small block Chevy. Better pumps, injectors? Even higher compression with better starters? All he above?

I know the bigger & more prepared farmers have plug ins, heaters, battery maintainers & the like.. But a lot of smaller operators used to keep a gas powered tractor on hand for feeding in the winter for the simple reason it might start when the diesels wouldn't.
Never underestimate carburetors & points. Or a nice big heated shop... Which we don't have! Key to quick cold weather starts is that initial quick spin. Good battery and/or jump(before you even try it..) makes all the difference for 10-20 year old diesel tractors. They start really easy compared to +20 year old tractors. Amen.
