Due to my screwed up neck, I need a scope mounted farther back than most people. The Leupold 1.5-5 + an extended ring did the trick for me. 6.5x55 1A.

I know it's not fun with those extra parts in your spine.

For years I ran a reg AO 3-9x Vari X ii.
Normal rings.
Varmint rig, summer.....not bundled up.

Deer rig was RSI w m8 4x.
Used an ext ring at rear. Only needed a bit.

Another B model w a reg 3-9x Vari X ii.
Offset again at rear.

Have another B w Vari X iii 3.5-10x.
Yup, it will get an ext ring at rear.

My neck just doesnt work like it used to.

I have 6x36 Leupolds on Number 1's in 243, 7mm Rem, 300 H&H, and 375 H&H. Some are duplex and some are LRDs, no complaints on any of them.

Mine wore a Swaro Z3 3-10x42. I always thought it was a good fit. No mounting issues or problems with eye relief

I would not use one of those hideous rails on a No.1... why do you not want to use an offset ring? Using an offset ring in the rear position allows you to use whatever you want, but just as importantly, it increases the strength of the mounting and your scope tubes ability to withstand an inadvertent knock or drop... all of my No.1's have the 4BO in the rear position. With the 4BO I use all of the standard VX-3 lineup on my No.1 rifles.

I had the same issue with my 1Ka in 257 Rob, I first put my favorite 2.5-8 x36 Luep but found the neck craning even with extended rings was too much. I ended up puttiing a silver VX 11 3x9 because it had better eye relief. I recently got a 200 anni 1B in 6mm that if I don't find a 1A in 270 to trade for by next season I will probably try a VX III 3x9 50 on.

My custom #1 wears a Leupold M8 6x, gloss finish- goes well with the rifle blued finish.

I've tried Ruger extension rings and it kinda sucks. Saw this (Weaver slip-over mount) on EABCO - I know it would be sacraligous to the purists. I'm a function before form type of guy wink
