I was getting ready to yell, SUPPRESSOR, so loud you could here me from Maryland. I assume you are using a slang use of the word and not the dictionary definition. by itself suppressor does not really apply without another word or two included with it to show it refers to sound. sup·pres·sor /səˈpresər/ noun: suppressor; plural noun: suppressors - a person or group that deprives others of power or prevents something from happening. "suppressors of free speech" - something that prevents the development or expression of a feeling, process, etc. "that great suppressor of talent and imagination: fear" - a device that partly or wholly eliminates electrical interference. "the computer and phone line are plugged into a surge suppressor" Maxim named his invention a 'Silencer', Parker-Hale called them 'Sound Moderators'... so I guess the correct term will depend on which one was intended to fit the gun. maxim+silencersilencer+definition

Bubba at his finest - better than the proverbial compass-in-stock abomination. Pretty sure it was a cap to protect the crown: Doesn't look anything like my BSA rifle with the threaded muzzle for the P-H moderator...

That looks like an original Maxim protective cap, so it probably is for a Silencer and not for a Moderator or a Suppressor. This picture show the drive on adapter but threaded barrels used the same cap. The cap that is fully knurled is probably not original.

When you get sick of looking at it on the wall shoot me a note, I'll put a new stock on it, blue it and get it up and running again.

Recently posted ad: Savage Model 1920 250-3000 (250 Savage) in poor condition. Bore has pitting, but rifling is visible. It shoots reasonably well, but I recommend against shooting and its probably better for parts. Has what looks like original factory aperture/peep sight, original metal butt plate. Stock has been repaired at the wrist at some point, checkering is worn. No idea of the value, so asking $100 plus shipping, but open to offers. So what would you offer if you were the first guy viewing the post? if i had my eyes open it would have stayed in B.C. norm

Ya, saw it when I woke up and it was already gone to Bert, there was a nice Stevens 410 SXS that went quick late that night as well.

My 22HP with the factory threaded barrel and cap. Probably too early to be an AB Grade 1899H based on the front sight, but same options (except the thick hard rubber buttplate). What a beautiful rifle! Ever letter that one?

Interupted threads where the barrel threads into the reciever, and interupted threads where the maxim silencer would screw onto the barrel.

"suppressors of free speech" - something that prevents the development or expression of a feeling, process, etc. "that great suppressor of talent and imagination: fear" - a device that partly or wholly eliminates electrical interference. "the computer and phone line are plugged into a surge suppressor" Maxim named his invention a 'Silencer', Parker-Hale called them 'Sound Moderators'... so I guess the correct term will depend on which one was intended to fit the gun. maxim+silencersilencer+definitionYes, the Maxim's were created and marketed as silencers. But Hollywood killed that - their depictions of silencers made it seem as though guns were totally silent when fired with one, when in reality it just dampens the noise enough not to hurt your ears permanently. They did such a bang up job of spreading disinformation that silencers were included in the 1934 National Firearms Act, even though they were practically never used in actual crimes. Even today when it's trivially easy to create an adhoc suppressor, criminals don't do it. So the gun industry changed the term to "suppressors" - short, if you will, for gun shot volume suppressor - in order to fight the ignorance created by Hollywood and the anti-gun fanatics. Suppressor is a much more accurate term than silencer. This is like arguing that the Savage 1907 is actually an automatic pistol and not a semi-automatic pistol, because Savage advertised the 1907 as an automatic. So are the anti-gunners correct when saying that criminals using automatic weapons all the time? No.. the terms 100+ years ago were frequently inaccurate.

I also had a H in 22HP that had a cap on the end of the barrel. I think it also was a 1912-13 rifle, it was a plain Jane, not like Don's.
Deer Camp! about as good as it gets!
