Mine from that era has a corncob forearm. The adl must of come with differant forearm. Nice gun. n. I believe the 5 Diamond pattern was earlier than the corn cob but not sure. I believe it is the same checkering pattern as the 11-48 and 58's have. My diamond pattern is second year production

I believe this to be 2nd or 3rd year. It looks like it may end up staying in my safe.

True but technically it isn't a plain barrel it is a "matte rib".

The corncob forearm and the ADL were made during the same time period. Serial number on the barrel means its 55 or earlier. I have a 51 corncob and a 52 12 gauge like yours. That's just the upgraded stocks. Nice 870 , if I didn't already have a dozen or so id be interested.
