What grain bullet would you guys use for hunting Muledeer with a 17hmr? Going out west with mine in the fall and don't want to use a bullet that might be too heavy and lose a bunch of meat.....

I don’t know why you insist on shooting them so dead. You’ll darn near take their fur off. Too big a caliber? No the caliber is fine. It’s your chambering that’s all wrong. .177 Crosman 760 and aim for the eye. If that doesn’t work club him over the head with it.

I got heavily chastised on this forum for suggesting my beloved 222 Remington was not enough for deer....................... but a 17hmr ??????????? I wont even use it on coyotes again. show a little respect for the game you are hunting, use a 17 Hornet but not a rimfire (-:

I wont even use it on coyotes again. show a little respect for the game you are hunting, use a 17 Hornet but not a rimfire (-: 17 hornet kicks too much...

It would be about my last choice. However I bet more deer are taken with a 22LR than most folks think.
