I have been shooting the same Mossberg 500 since 1996. It's one of the El Cheapo Viking editions with the green plastic stock. I got it at a scratch-n-dent sale at Dicks. It has a vented 28" barrel and a Carlson's Dead Coyote choke. I put on a scope, because the original barrel was bent (hence the cheap price). Mossberg replaced the barrel, but my eyes were bad enough that I found a scope was of terrific benefit. I've been hunting with it ever since.

Over a decade ago, I stripped it back to its original ugliness and gave it a spray job with Krylon Fusion. I've since done a few for friends since:

The extra barrel is a factory rifled deer barrel. I used it for a half-dozen or so years in Ohio for deer.

At the time, the way I looked at the paint job was that nothing worse could happen to the shotgun. It was a very freeing experience.

I've since thought about a bunch of turkey gun projects, but I really can't beat this old '500 for practicality.

My go to has been a 12 ga 870 magnum turkey 21" with the advantage camo furniture, bought it new in 1998, picked up a XXX full comp-n-choke for it shortly after and always have shot Win supreme #5.

Just recently picked up a 870 youth 20ga with 21" barrel and a Stoeger M3020 26", will probably hunt a little with both of them as well.

Thank you, sir. Much appreciated.

I've run a whole lot of dedicated turkey guns for periods of time over the years. It's been a fun progression.......from where I started in the late 70's til today........

Winchester 1200 12 gauge 2 3/4"
Remington 870 Turkey 12 gauge 3"
Browning BPS 10 gauge 3 1/2"
Winchester Super X2 12 gauge 3 1/2"
Winchester Super X3 12 gauge 3 1/2"
H&R single 20 gauge 3"

There's been others that hunted a day or two here and there. But it's been interesting to watch the developments in choke tubes and shotshell technology. Hard to believe we're doing things with 20 gauges today that no 12 gauge would do 20 years ago.
