Always a good response to "How ya doin'?"

Most nurses I've encountered are basically wannabe doctors (my own sister was an RN) who never tire of lecturing how much education they have and how extraordinarily difficult their job is...mere mortals simply cannot comprehend it (another example of this phenomenon is school teachers). I promptly concur by agreeing that it takes tremendous brain power and skill to empty a bedpan. That usually shuts 'em up.

I've always wondered how they would do in the EMT field... you know all the nurse kind of stuff but RIGHT NOW... life or death. Hmmm...

The only person I'd rather have on scene than a first responder is, MAYBE, an ER specialist doc or a trauma surgeon. Actually, I think the paramedic is tops in the field. Different skill sets apply. All have their place.

My late wife and I have always had very polite and caring nurses here in Boise. Grade A people.

I did run into something just yesterday I've never seen before when I had to see my internist who has been treating me for a blood clot in my leg. When I went to the registration desk to check in, the receptionist handed me an Ipad (or tablet) with questions about "thoughts of suicide." Stated that Idaho has the highest suicide rate in the nation, per capita. Every question was a "Yes" or "No" answer.

I.e. "Have you ever thought about committing suicide?" "No," but I wish I could have written, "Only when I hear Hillary and Harris screeching like dying coyotes." No place to write a response, more's the pity. wink

There were six questions in total, along the same lines as the above. "No" to all of them.

I guess I passed the "test" as I got in to see my doc.

I wonder what would have happened if I'd answered "Yes," to the questions? Possibly be in a padded cell today sitting on a smelly, soiled mattress, having stale coffee and a peanut butter sandwich for lunch. grin

I get those questions also, but my mild mannered RN wife is close friends with my doctor and her nurse so I tell them how she hits me and threatens me all the time and I'm afraid to go to sleep for fear she'll kill me.

I love the "DO you feel safe at home" question personally.

I have, in the past, answered "No, I do not. I know the black helicopters are coming for us."

So far, the matter has been dropped, rather than Psych staff called.

The suicide and gun questions came under Obama they want to use it when you buy a firearm. They don't have the right to that info at this point but the info is there.

When the dr. came in, she told him I had refused to answer the question about the covid shot and went on to tell him that I said 'It was none of their business'. Now doc has known me for 60 years, so he told her not to worry about it and changed the conversation to hunting and fishing. You shoulda seen the look on the nurses face, you'd have thought she had been slapped or something. As I walked out of the room, I heard doc tell her that he wasn't surprised at my answer..... then the door closed all the way and I couldn't hear anymore.

Well done.
Insurance companies always want data to evaluate risk and thus set your premium based on risk.
I would expect that they may pay for it (hence the nurses reaction) I imagine it is actually protected under hippa regulations..
Remember hospitals received payments for covid diagnoses and ventilator prescriptions.

Never give out personal information without a good reason.

This thread has motivated me to answer YES to every COVID question at the next doctor’s appointment. It should be interesting.

You mean like;

"Whiles yet the cool and temperate winds of grave or’ blow the filthy and contageous CLOUDS of heady murder, spoil, and villainy!”

Those clouds??

Just curious to know?

Knowing what I know, I am pretty sure this gal had an attitude or Oldman would have handled it differently. You tend to get treated the way you treat other people. It is true insurance companies are in control of health care and they tell medical professionals how they are allowed to treat patients. I know of several examples.
The PA I have been seeing is an ex-marine and I am pretty sure he was a medic who saw combat action. He is a no nonsense kind of guy and we have a pretty frank relationship. I get the impression he doesn't approve of a lot of what he is required to do. He asked if I ever had a flu shot. I told him no. He said they are about 60% effective and left it at that. I expect he will ask if I have taken a China flu shot. I intend to ask him why? It doesn't keep you from getting the China flu. It doesn't mean you don't have to wear a mask. It does t mean you can go out in public.
He and I get along pretty well after he knew the answer to my question about what do you call the guy who graduates at the bottom of his class in medical school?
