A friends wife is looking for a brand new colt 1911 and anyplace she looked is out of stock, I've looked some and found the same. Would need to be shipped here and any help would be appreciated. I don't know why it has to be a colt and I don't bother trying to understand a woman sometimes.

Most TX FFL Dealers Refuse to ship to NY and CA. Doesn’t seem to matter whether they legally can or not.

The Wiley Clapp Colts are very nice pistols too. And I don't think they're making Wiley Clapps in the 5 inch model anymore either.

Sounds like a smart woman to me. Colt's had their ups and downs, but is making very good guns right now.

The Wiley Clapp Colt is a nice pistola. Bob I agree, one heck of a pistola! If that one were mine I'd put a Wilson bullet proof single thumb safety to go with the bulletproof slide lock you have. I ride the safety is why. That's exactly what I have on my re-issue series 70 that I sent back to Colt for a Model O package. I also have a Wilson BP mag release. I wish now I would have had the front strap checkered, just didn't have the coin.

I carry the Wiley LW Commander in various holsters depending what I'm doing and where I'm at. I like the thumb safety ol' Wiley picked for his design. My thumb is there all the time. One of my favorite carry 1911.
That's saying something since I'm up to owning 57 of the damn things.

Go to Buds and order yourself a mid 1960s production Colt Government Model like mine. Make sure to ask for the optional real elephant ivory grips.

The Wiley Clapp Colt is a nice pistola. Bob I like how they use the retro, pre-1950 style, thumb safety. I happen to like that style, and the post-1950 style, too. Never saw the need for the extended style that became so popular since about 1980. I can take or leave them. Also, good choice on the replacement grips. Much classier than the factory ones. My only criticism in terms of style, is the angled slide serrations. Might be slightly superior for actual manipulation, but I prefer the traditional vertical serrations.

Speaking of Colts...a series 80 isn't a bad choice, if you find a good used one. This is a Gold Cup Trophy, with a few mods. Bob
