What a tragedy!

We may know the time Ben Carson lied, but does anyone know the time Hillary Clinton told the truth?

Damn training accidents. Another brave, dedicated American gone.

During WWII, the Army Air Forces lost over 15,000 dead that never left the 48.

A sad deal. Rest in Peace, Airborne! Training kills occasionally and any number of things can go wrong on a jump!

Well, it appears I misremembered my stats. Internet search, several sites quote 15,000.

Had a pile of them in our county. We had three spots where fighter pilots were trained to fly. Each of the three spots had six or so cris crossed runways you can still see from the air today. Mostly P-51’s and P-40 Warhawks from the pics I’ve seen. They trained pilots-to-be from the US as well as Great Britain. The farm I have hunted for years is adjacent to the ends of three runways. Unfortunately, many pilots were killed during takeoffs and landings there and it isn’t unusual for a tractor bottom plowing to pull up wreckage from long ago. A friend of mine found a wedding ring that based on the inscription, was able to be traced back to a family in GB.

True words. I spent 4 years in the 82nd. Losses were not common, but did happen a little too often. Still, more troops were killed driving drunk than parachuting every year. Stuff is gonna happen with young kids ( like I was) being out on their own for the first time. Exactly like in civilian life.

Airborne Ops is high risk training. There is a lot that can go wrong with precious little time to fix the problem. I can't remember a Mas Tac that didn't involve injuries, several of which resulted in fatalities. Fatalities occur across the spectrum of military training. Always a bad thing.

R.I.P. Spec Jenks, see you at the final RP.

WWII was in the early days of serious parachuting. Techniques and equipment have improved dramatically since then. It was invented clear back in the late 1700's and used to jump off of cliffs and towers but a lot of jumpers splatted. They were like early day BASE jumpers. Even today that's a very dangerous sport.
