I should edit the title of my OP. I cuss, not curse. Iā€™d never seek to deny a person entrance to whatever wonderful afterlife they believe in.

There are some I feel could do a better job about getting there a little quicker.

Just an observation. I think you know what I mean.

Hereā€™s my small take on church and pastor/preachers.

Iā€™ve sat countless hours in pews, and Iā€™ve seen and heard some incredible sermons that were designed to fleece a flock, or move a congregation to act or feel a certain way, that wasnā€™t IMO, Christ like.

Not judging....Just an informed observation. The last time my ass warmed a pew I watched a preacher hop around on his stage pleading for donations to improve upon the already massive and beautiful church. All while saying Jesus says, Jesus says, Jesus says.

In the back of the church a transient/homeless dude was seated and he started saying ā€œAmenā€ after the preacher would say his Jesus says line of BS.

The Decons escorted the homeless dude out of the church. LMAO !

Amen

I'll buy that. I see the distinction.

Iā€™m sure thereā€™s a Freudian explanation for my vulgarity.
Probably something to do with my deep rooted desire to highly offend societal norms due to my disdain for society at large and itā€™s
hypocrisy(s) specifically.

I think your explanation is actually quite profound. Harsh language seems like a way to be edgy and sort of generally offensive. Shock value, if you will. Kind of a persona some choose to adopt. I donā€™t mean you personally, as I donā€™t know you, so no offense intended.

Discussion here: https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/15794440/1

People who use some profanity tend to be more intelligent and honest than people who never do. Less filtered.

I use it for emphasis and humor. I almost never use at AT someone. On the rare occasion that I do, it's someone who really needs to hear it.

Sometimes, it makes an emphasis that is needed or accentuated the humor of something.

Anecdotal Example: When I was 17 I was arrested for a DUI. My parents were divorced. I lived with my mother. My father had moved a couple thousand miles away for job reasons. My mother couldn't understand and thought I was just a bad person.

My father knew better. He called me up, and we talked about it. He paused and said: "You're a good person and you have a bright future. I know it will be that way. You're eventually going to stop f***ing up. Here's the thing: Why not make it now? Why wait a few more years or so? ..."

That was emphasis. If he had said "messing up," it wouldn't have had the same affect. His intent was pure and his impact was elevated. It helped me decide to stop f***ing up.

Profanity also can be hilarious on occasion.

I never cussed until I was about 4 years into a 40+ year construction occupation. Didn't think much one way or the other about others that did, just didn't.

My wife would let slip a word or two or more if pushed. She grew up in a different kind of household.

My daughter had decided early in life not to cuss. She tells the story of a coworker asking if she grew up in a house with no cussing because she never uttered a bad word.

Well, my dad's a construction worker...

Coworker answers... Oh, knowingly...

But my mom... she can talk flies off a gut pile...

In my experience, most folks pushing the squeaky clean lifestyle have a chitload of skeletons in their closets and or are pretty rotten themselves.

Some folks are more expresive than others.

Some have had enough of the BS and just call em like they see em.

Yes, it can be a bad habit.

Psuedo intellects have tried to condemn some for the usage.

Just because you dont cuss, that doesnt mean you are smart or decent. Just means you dont cuss.

Do agree, that the power of words may be lost when over used.

I know who and what I am, Fuqk'em.

When I was a teen I fell in love with this girl and her father hated me and my long hair, I was never anything but polite to this man and he did everything to break us up. He finally succeeded by telling his daughter that he would never talk to her again if she continued to see me. a few years later she married a guy that beat the hell out of her several times, the last time he damn near killed her.

A few years after that I saw him and made a point to tell him that I had intended on marrying his daughter and taking care of her for the rest of her life but instead he fuqked all that up and damn near got his daughter killed. he hung his head, said nothing and walked away. I sincerely hope he suffered.

I understand she has remarried and I hope she is doing well, despite her father, she was a very selfless and giving person.

Moral of the story is, Don't judge a book by it's cover.

Spot on MH.
I know a lot of very capable, confident, intelligent people who cuss, mostly as you described. It's a fairly harmless way of relieving the tension of a situation or emphasizing a point.
