I don’t know. They mentioned it the other night on “Are You Being Served”. Looked it up and there’s a whole slew of “traditional” versions, from a simple egg cooked in a slice of bread to sausages cooked in Yorkshire pudding batter, whatever the Hell that is.
Reminds me of the goulash recipes I found some years back, all of them sworn to be original or traditional, including ones that simply appeared to be macaroni and beef, hardly likely to have been prepared over a campfire by rustic sheepherders.
What fresh Hell is this?

yep i have ate plenty toad in the hole for breakfast ! my favorite is fry bread and pork sausage !

Funny you mention goulash. As a kid I had no idea what it was supposed to be, or that it was hungarian or anything. It was just something my mom made with macaroni, ground beef, and tomato juice. Never heard of toad in the hole before.

Yorkshire pudding is a pastry, and in this recipe, is used as a "boat" or shell for sausages.

I eat Toad-in-Hole all the time for a quick breakfast. Just cut a hole in a slice of bread, start to fry each side in butter, crack an egg into it, add salt and pepper, and as a finish put some fresh parm cheese and green tobasco on top side, cover to heat for a minute. Voila!
