Got this one going together next. Atlas R/R non-tactical, Kreiger Sendero twisted 1:12, chambered in 22BR by 'Humble' Henry Rivers, Kelbly's Varminter stock.

Prepare to be pummeled over that 12 twist...... A lot to like about a 22 BR. I was a big 22 Dasher fan, till I torched that first barrel in the dog towns by 1500 rds.....

I hear 'ya re: the pummeling. I figure I can take it...haha. My other 22BR is a Lilja #3 short 700 that Stan Ware did for me. It has killed a couple truck loads (literally) of fox. I had a similar 22 Dasher experience....by 1,800 the leading edge of the lands were laid over though the throat looked good....kinda like the .30 cal 3 groove, 17 twist Liljas look like by the same round count. The 6 Dasher zero free bore with the Nosler 55's @ 3850 was totally easy on the barrel, though. The BIBster did me up some dandy 47gr. FBases and they shoot like crazy out of my 22PPC. Looking forward to getting another 2,000 for this deal. Stay warm, pard. -Al

Stay warm, pard. -Al Were the 47's the go to bullet for fox too? The last 2 fox I ever killed in Wi. were with my 22 Dasher. Snuck in on a pair, and come to find out, they were hung up. Shot the female first, and that broke the male loose. He ran a little bit, then stopped to tend to his sore peter. Bang. Still feel bad about shooting both. Coyotes have pretty much taken over around here now, tough to even spot a fox anymore. You still have huntable numbers? I had one of my old PPC's rechambered to 6 Dasher, no turn, .055" freebore. I FF'd several thousand rounds on dogs with the same 55 BT's, sold it to a guy that did the same, then he sold it. No idea how many went down that tube. Chilly willy here for the next week yet.

Final product: Here's the inspiration for the stock work...the infamous RFD Red Hammer Gun that I was fortunate to own and be involved with, along with the late Stan Ware and Randy 'R.G.' Robinett. It's unfortunate that Precision Shooting Magazine is no more, as that gun is worthy of an entire article on it's star crossed history, the Incident At Holmen that gave it it's name, it's sale, resurrection, it's ultimate place in the winners circle and finally....like an episode of 'Lassie Come Home'.... it's final journey back to it's original owner, Randy Robinett.

No surprises and everything performed as expected for it's first time out. I do a barrel break-in 'break-in' process on any new barrel and with that, the copper was gone in two shots and I jumped right to the load work. There was a fair amount of L-R push and the mirage would flip before the flags moved even with push, so you had to be careful... pretty normal for my home range. A little run-boil-run had me a skosh late on the trigger for shot #4 and added probably .025 or so of vertical to this one.....aaarrrggghhh. The bottom target is the same load but testing in the push and let offs scanning for vertical in the load. Basically, you pick a 90 degree wind flag direction to dampen out any vertical that non-90 degree winds can cause, ignore the wind speed changes and shoot. If done correctly, you'll get a very good indicator on how much, if any, vertical there is in the load along with what I call a 'weather report' group. As you can see, the combination of powder charge, seating depth and neck tension has tuned out any vertical. Once you know this, any 'on target' vertical will be either wind, mirage or shooter induced.

Very nice! I too have instant love of the 22BR with a (used) Lilja 12-twist barrel, lighter taper, #2, I think, x 24", no-turn neck chamber, 52g Berger FBV + 31.4g Varget. It's consistently half-MOA off a bench without much fiddling.
Mine's on a 722 action set in a factory 700 plastic stock, and it feeds from the box magazine. It's been on plenty of walks with me, and will knock down anything that stands still for me!

Wow, it's been so long since I've warmed up my BR, maybe it's time to wipe off the dust and get after it.
