I know everyone has a hang up on the electronic locks, but has anyone had one that actually failed and can comment on what it entailed to get everything resolved?

Here's an option. A dual lock with electronic keypad and a mechanical lock backup. I might look at putting this on my new safe.

Looks like they sell for about $300

I had the electronica lock on my Canon safe fail. It took a locksmith half a day and about $400 to get it open and then I Had him install a dial lock.

I've been doing some more google-fu and it seems like these dual locks get some great reviews. The manufacturer even has a video of how to install it on your existing safe. Seems like a no-brainer way to go for me as my new safe already has a Securam lock, so it should be a direct replacement. I wish it was an option when I bought the safe.

Probably order it today and replace the original lock as soon as I pick up the new safe. I'll see if I can sell the original lock on fleabay to recoup some of the cost.

Just wondering what an EMP would do, if anything, to an electric lock on a gun safe.

Asking for a friend.

If an EMP occurs, you'll have much more things to worry about than your gun safe. Besides who keeps all their guns in a safe at one time?

I'd rather die in a BAD gunfight than a GOOD nursing home.
