Trying to impress a woman, I took her to the Edgewater in Seattle...what a fiasco, never again, my embarrassing ignorance of manners and protocol for fine dining, snooty waiters, overpriced food. A good life lesson, I never tried to be something I wasn't again.

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

Ruths Chris is crazy expensive and drowns steaks in butter.

Ferraro's in Vegas is outstanding. Osso buco.

Gallagher's not so much.

Back in the sales days, with a corporate expense account, of all the cc slips I signed by the must "push" place was when hosting the luxury suites at a NBA arenas.

50 dollar nachos. 20 dollar 6 packs....

Fleming's, Mahogany, 101 Chophouse, Omaha Prime, etc. We go once a year on our anniversary, but I haven't found a steak yet that I can't cook better on my Green Egg.

Know fat, know flavor. No fat, no flavor.

I tried going vegan, but then realized it was a big missed steak.

Commanders Palace in NOLA.

But the most expensive probably goes to Alexanderโ€™s Steakhouse in Cupertino

Dinner with relatives when I was a kid. Not a fancy joint. With both families, it was nine people. They didn't even have enough cash for their own meal. Mom and dad covered the bill with money they could ill afford to spend.

No offer to repay...no apology...nothing. It was tight...real tight for a few weeks at home. Us kids didn't know the exact dollar amount, but we did know the amount of stress if put on our family.

Same relatives wanted to get together a few years later. Mom told them we were "busy". They never called except when they needed something. Mom told them not to call anymore.

For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat."

But I prefer Dude's in Sidney, NE, or Round the Bend in South Bend, NE.

Some fancy steak house in downtown Nashville.

Had my daughter and her friend at a national convention down there and we were just looking for something to eat real quick because they had to get back to the convention.

They got mac an cheese and I ordered stuffed mushrooms thinking they were $11 on the menu. Turns out they were $38 and let me tell you they were worth every penny!

The Maisonette, downtown Cincinnati. Longest running Mobil 5 star awards ever. Had a friend take me there for lunch as a send off when I transferred to a new gig. Stuff appeared and disappeared off the table without noticing anyone ever coming close to us. Glasses were magically refilled when they neared the halfway mark. A simple lunch for two, no alcohol, was north of $100 in 1988. Plus a generous gratuity...

I do too, but I have no choice, food is terrible for the price. Itโ€™s free is the only saving grace. I hate to know I was paying for that crap.
