I remember talking to some “bar people”.

They would pronounce DUI like a word - dewey. Not pronouncing the letters. They seemed to be close associates with the concept. Multiples.

There is no way I could count the number of times I could have gotten a DUI when I was younger. I grew up in Montana----that's what we did!
We always did most of our drinking while driving.
Not very smart, but we all survived and grew up to be smarter!

Never lost a D.U.I. case - in other words they were really drunk for me to put them in irons or they got the "hide the keys call a taxi" drill - this kept more patrol units on the streets for life and death type stuff.
Personally I've never had a ticket in 58 (fifty eight) years of driving so far - let alone a "D.U.I."!
My advice to all - DO NOT drink (or drug!) and drive.
It turns out to be immensely expensive, let alone the dangers involved.

That’s a bunch for mall security

In '84 or so a casual HS drinking/party buddy of mine and 2 other weekend warriors commandeered 3 golf carts at a private course. As the story goes, hours of drunken fun barreling around the course under a full moon came to a close when local cops and security arrived on scene. The lads made a break for it and were seconds away from a clean getaway when one of the boys got sloppy and ended up flipping the cart. He was ejected and the cart landed right on top of him. He died en route to the hospital. Dear price paid for a night of silliness. I lost most of my right lung when I ate it while shytfaced doing 80+ on a Kawi @ 16. I'd be lying if I said that in intervening 45 years I never made any bad decisions as far as driving when I shouldn't have, sadly, but they've been rare and I've never been convicted of a DUI.

Don't suppose you'd care to expound on that, but on a few different levels I agree. Here in enemy liberal territory the DUI statutes have teeth. DUI convictions, even 1st time offenses are good for a *felony* conviction, w/mandatory jail time on 2nd convictions and harsher penalties for any further guilty findings. Allegedly. But then some get that laws are applied very differently for some. There's a 40 something year old white broad down the street who, according to a local rag, was arrested and charged over the winter with her 10th DUI, and she's still at home giving out milkbone treats to the girls in front of her pad. On a 4th or 5th DUI conviction state code calls for like 5 year mandatory incarceration, permanent/lifetime DL revocation and lots more. This broad still busts out the doggy yum yums on a daily basis for the pups. Which is cool and all, but I can't help but wonder if the fact that her daddy is a Lt. with the local band of blue monkeys has anything to do with her remarkable treatment.... Nah. Just a fluke I guess...

The wife's nephew got a DUI and had his license suspended, the dumb s hit drove while under suspension and got caught. By the time he got his license back he had amassed $6K in attorney fees and costs of court.

Take your example.

Multiply it by 500.

There's your answer. LOL

Minnesota has some insane laws regarding DUI’s. I had a Biden voter explain them to me one day and I told him how fugked up they were.

He said he supports them because drinking and driving is so dangerous.

I reminded him of all his drunk driving stories and he said “Yeah but most people can’t drink and drive safely.”

LOL. He is a lifetime CDL holder by the way.
