None here. I left a few house parties and bars when I shouldn’t have back in the day but absolutely won’t drink and drive anymore and haven’t for years. I never felt like I was impaired to the point of being a hazard to others but it’s not worth the risk of a DUI.
Before that I worked at a Mall. I was 19 (grandfathered into the 18 year old drinking law) I would leave the mall at closing, typically at 2130. Go get a 12 pack Heineken and a bag of ice. I kept a cooler in the truck. There were about 5 Bars / Clubs I would frequent until around midnight, drinking beers in the truck between stops. And, then pretty much hammered, drive home. some mornings I had to look out the window to see if my truck was in the yard because I had no idea how I got home.
One night during this time, I topped the hill near my house right off the interstate, there was a DUI roadblock, cops lights everywhere. no where to go, maybe 300 yds to the group of Cops. A cop I knew (went to my church) came to the window with a flashlight, shined it in and looked at the cooler between my feet. 4 Heineken bobbing and swimming in a icy pool. He said, Keith, wtf are you doing? I said..."umm nothing".
He said, "go over there and pour those beers out and go home". I did. That is the first, last and only time I ever even came close.
No, have CDL, absolutely do not drink and drive. When we go dancing, we stay at a close hotel, Uber to club and back. If we drive to club, Wifey drinks with our dancing friends, I drive home. I do not want to go to the drunk tank in downtown Houston.

After 28 years 5 months of Navy, I owe that guy.
thanks for that. God takes care of His people
Those bolo tie guys out west that take their boat to lake powell on Sundays...not so much

Have an uncle who racked up at least 10 during the 70’s and 80’s. They took them for 10 years, he got another 2 months later and they took them for life. Never forget we had to pick him up one night after the cops got him. He told my mom he would never drink again as long as he lived. Said he’d seen Jesus. It was a crazy bright light blinding him. Cop said that was the Ford Granada he’d hit head on. When you’re 9 years old that [bleep] funny.
My wife doesn't drink so it works out well. She also thinks it's stupid that if she is driving, why I can't indulge like when we owned our motor home. As a result if we are traveling and the mood hits, I fill up my mug and enjoy the scenery. She said an open bottle ticket is far better than a DUI, it's worked for us for over 40 years.

You do indeed.
Can't say I wasn't let off the hook a time or two myself. Those were different times, though.
Up until the late 90s I didn't drive any distance at all without a cooler full of beer, destined to be empty once I got to where I was aimed.
Since then, It has been rare for me to drive after even just an honest couple. Not only could consequences be severe financially, but could be devastating in a more personal sense for myself and far worse for someone else. No can do anymore.

I could always get a few every week, one night, I got three. Some people don't know when to stop drinking before getting behind the wheel of a vehicle.
i drank when i was a teenager. later working on the sheriffs dept i saw too many dead bodies. I was participant in arresting some cops at various times
slumload: Yeah I "got" a bunch of "D.U.I.'s! About 1,450 (one thousand four hundred and fifty!) of them. Averaged arresting one a week during 29 years of service. Never lost a D.U.I. case - in other words they were really drunk for me to put them in irons or they got the "hide the keys call a taxi" drill - this kept more patrol units on the streets for life and death type stuff. Personally I've never had a ticket in 58 (fifty eight) years of driving so far - let alone a "D.U.I."! My advice to all - DO NOT drink (or drug!) and drive. It turns out to be immensely expensive, let alone the dangers involved. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

That’s a bunch for mall security
Probably more like 6 (six) old ladies (women) driving electric carts too fast (speeding).
Got one in 2016. Wife and I were out of town at a bbq contest. After the comp we were going back to our hotel and were t-boned by a car that ran a red light and it totaled my 3 year old truck with less than 40,000 miles on it. I was not ticketed for the wreck, but I blew a .10 and got it for that. Hired a local attorney and he tried getting it reduced to reckless endangerment, but the Buffalo county attorney was not going to let the city boy slide. Fine....I broke the law and took my lumps. PS....the woman that hit me was texting AND uninsured. That DUI was the gift that kept giving.

I got one back in 2002. The wife died and I got lost in the bottle every night for many many years after that... Took me about 15 years to start living again.
Nope, in my younger years perhaps several times could have, gotten a bit older and perhaps wiser. Don't even think about driving after drinking now. Wife does not for the most part drink. If we need to go somewhere she can drive. I know turned in the "Man Card".... Still carry my TS Clearance as well.
I’ve been blessed. Try not to push it too much these days. Still take a road soda on local drives or when dirt roading.
Some towns have nothing better to do, or way to generate revenue, than fugking with everyone that drives down a street. Used to get stopped at checkpoints in GA pretty frequently.
There is no way I could count the number of times I could have gotten a DUI when I was younger. I grew up in Montana----that's what we did! We always did most of our drinking while driving. Not very smart, but we all survived and grew up to be smarter!
tough to get drunk when you drink chablis in solo sups cal dumb
lmao

In '84 or so a casual HS drinking/party buddy of mine and 2 other weekend warriors commandeered 3 golf carts at a private course. As the story goes, hours of drunken fun barreling around the course under a full moon came to a close when local cops and security arrived on scene. The lads made a break for it and were seconds away from a clean getaway when one of the boys got sloppy and ended up flipping the cart. He was ejected and the cart landed right on top of him. He died en route to the hospital. Dear price paid for a night of silliness. I lost most of my right lung when I ate it while shytfaced doing 80+ on a Kawi @ 16. I'd be lying if I said that in intervening 45 years I never made any bad decisions as far as driving when I shouldn't have, sadly, but they've been rare and I've never been convicted of a DUI.
Don't suppose you'd care to expound on that, but on a few different levels I agree. Here in enemy liberal territory the DUI statutes have teeth. DUI convictions, even 1st time offenses are good for a *felony* conviction, w/mandatory jail time on 2nd convictions and harsher penalties for any further guilty findings. Allegedly. But then some get that laws are applied very differently for some. There's a 40 something year old white broad down the street who, according to a local rag, was arrested and charged over the winter with her 10th DUI, and she's still at home giving out milkbone treats to the girls in front of her pad. On a 4th or 5th DUI conviction state code calls for like 5 year mandatory incarceration, permanent/lifetime DL revocation and lots more. This broad still busts out the doggy yum yums on a daily basis for the pups. Which is cool and all, but I can't help but wonder if the fact that her daddy is a Lt. with the local band of blue monkeys has anything to do with her remarkable treatment.... Nah. Just a fluke I guess...
The wife's nephew got a DUI and had his license suspended, the dumb s hit drove while under suspension and got caught. By the time he got his license back he had amassed $6K in attorney fees and costs of court.

Minnesota has some insane laws regarding DUI’s. I had a Biden voter explain them to me one day and I told him how fugked up they were.
He said he supports them because drinking and driving is so dangerous.
I reminded him of all his drunk driving stories and he said “Yeah but most people can’t drink and drive safely.”
A bunch as a teen in the 70’s, times were different then.
Later on in my motorcycle period I rarely drank more’n three beers, didn’t enjoy riding drunk. But one night I was three sheets into the wind. A Cop pulled over the buddy I was out bar hopping with, coulda easily been been me, I actually blacked out part of the ride home. Couldn’t believe I made it the next morning, the ol’ Guardian Angel was working overtime that night.
The last time I got pulled over by a Cop I was leaving a bar late, he was trolling for drunks. I passed the field sobriety test, that was thirty years ago, I can’t recall drinking and driving since then.
I got one back in 2002. The wife died and I got lost in the bottle every night for many many years after that... Took me about 15 years to start living again.
Now there’s a story of note, sorry for your loss, she must have been wonderful.

Maybe a similar story here, lost my first wife in 1997, sobered up just in time to make the worst mistake of my life by marrying the evil #2.
To the OP, where I grew up drinking a driving won't a big deal. I should have had several. Later I got a job that required a clean DL and spotless background checks. No more risking the loss of income, there was always somebody willing to pilot the ship anyway.
It’s seemed like the laws were a lawyer’s game, fattening their pockets. If you’re poor, your Phuqked, got money, no problem.
If you’re truly poor you won’t GAF because it’s not going to change a fugking thing in your day to day life.
If you’re truly wealthy, you won’t GAF because your lawyer is gonna eat cop ass and get you out of it.
If you’re middle class (America’s backbone) you’re gonna shave about three years off your life, potentially lose your primary source of income, and spend $10K just so the government you pay taxes toward will allow you to go to work.
By and large people support DUI enforcement. Because by and large, people are fugking stupid.
But [bleep] like AZ being a felony for even first offense is insane.
Ticket the self righteous fugkers tailgating or backing up traffic with their godsdamned fugking homes on wheels they don’t know how to [bleep] navigate with.
Very good attorney told my brother never take a breathalyzer. He said he can get you off if you don’t but you’re likely screwed if you do.
I'd imagine most attorneys would advise the same, but it's extremely dependent on the Court/Judge as well as the officers involved. I had a Judge for a long time that, once you established yourself in his Court, saw refusals basically as a 'dodge'. In his Court, attorneys pled a lot of refusals they probably wouldn't have elsewhere.
I left the drive in theatre when I was 18 with the GF. Speeding like a dumbass got pulled over. They said they give 3 breathalyzers because they’re not that accurate (per the popo)
.078 .079 .082
That wasn’t good enough, the court dropped it Eventually but the state still took my license.

Yeah.
You kinda lose your right to a fair anything once you’re accused of drinking three beers and operating something as complex as a car.
Never. For the last 20 years on the job we had to had to have a class B CDL and the blood alcohol drops to .04. Some guys beat it in court by claiming it was a job requirement and they weren't assigned as engineer/apparatus operators. That was changed and it got ugly for some guys that just couldn't get it right. I know a guy that got a DUI just moving his car from a condo parking lot to the street. The cop observed him and his friends exiting a limo after a bachelor party. My wife did all the driving back then. She figured even of she got caught I (The Meal Ticket) could keep working. The first DUI was a 30 day suspension. 2nd was 6 months, 3rd was a termination.

There was a local guy around here that the state said had 27 (TWENTY SEVEN) DWI's that they knew of. He got busted here leaving the local bar after telling the bartender "They'll never take me alive" and then drove off on a motorcycle. Guess he was wrong on that call He got one a couple towns over after driving off with the gas pump hose still in his tank. The last one I heard of he left the local VFW and got stopped on a major hiway going 10 mph, which I suppose was good? He just passed away not long ago.

What did they do if their client blew a 1.04?
Generally that would lead to a plea as well. Either I would drop the administrative portion and they'd take the DWI (assuming we're discussing a first offense) or I'd reduce to a Reckless and they ate the administrative. Obviously, prior records etc played into the negotiation The first portion of my career, a first offense was violation level. That made things a lot easier for all parties.
For 35 years there was hardly a day that went by that I wasn’t eligible for a DUI but I never got one. Way back before the cars had breathalyzers I passed a field sobriety test with a fifth of Jim Beam in me. Health has forced me to quit drinking altogether now
I worked as a LEO for a bit over 30 years. The highest Breathalyzer reading I ever saw was 380 mgs % -- almost 5 times the legal limit. He got jail time for that. It wasn't his first rodeo.
Personally, my last drink of beverage alcohol was May 1, 1982. Don't miss it a bit.
We certainly see a trend here with the Polish, but, surprisingly, Poland isn’t even in the top 10 heaviest drinking countries. In fact, none of these countries are represented in any of these cases.
After a car accident that caused severe injuries, a Polish man’s BAC was measured at 1.480%. This is probably the highest BAC ever recorded in known history. Doctors said he survived his brush with death due to drinking, but he later died due to the injuries associated with the crash.
Not me, but the kid got one and you should see all the advanced gyrations for paper work that he has to go through just to cross the border to go fishing in Canada. I've been hit by two drunk drivers out on the road and I have no use for people who drink and drive. The wife had a five million dollar balloon insurance policy because her first husband drank and drove and it finally took out his liver and killed him, but luckily no one from a driving drunk car crash.
Here if you refuse the breathalyzer you lose your licence and what they don't tell you is then they are taking you to the hospital to do a blood draw. You are screwed either way. The neighbor had that happen and she wanted me to pick up her kid from school because the police were watching for her to drive without a licence. I've read that a first offence DWI will run you $10,000. by the time its over with increased insurance premiums and fines.

How are they going to draw blood if you don't co-operate
Restraints. The fine print somewhere says that they have the right to do that if they suspect a person is intoxicated. A blood test is more accurate than a breathalyzer. The neighbor woman had that happen and thought she would be smart and refuse the blow in the tube test.
They can get a warrant to require a blood draw but a good attorney will drag that out until you'll pass and/or question the accuracy of the test for dozens of reasons.
Most DAs facing that will plead it down to some non-event.
Here they can’t do that unless you cause an accident/injury.
Ditto. Despite some nonsense being posted, an attorney isn't 'dragging out' a warrant for bloods. When needed, I'll generally have one signed and in hand in less than 40 minutes (less now, thanks to The Covids and our Judges finally doing more via email).

And at that point you should be able to get a warrant and draw blood.

Nope. By the grace of God. Only pulled over once. Blew a .069 when .07 was impaired. Lady cop wasn't happy. Actually had to use the eye patch a few times in the 80's - it works to some degree. MADD and the Jesus Freaks used to sit at a coffee shop across the street from the bars. They offered free rides home if you submit to their little mobile crusade on the way home. IDGAF. I was usually pretty schitfaced so I'm sure I got my Jesus on for them. Ride home? Amen Brother. At least I didn't drive.
I don't drink and drive anymore. Not worth it. Might have a toddy with dinner at the restaurant, but that's about it. Now if there's a DD, well...
Buddy was heading to the dock to go fishing at 8am on a Sunday morning. Made a left turn into...a cop. Other buddy who he was going to meet watched the whole thing. Totaled both vehicles. Cop injured his wrist. Blew a .18 at 8am. Never heard a word about it. Kinda went away quietly in court. Weird.

Who blew a .18?....your buddy or the cop?
If it was the cop I can understand it being swept under the rug.
It's also really dumb bad luck for most people that get one. Millions drive "intoxicated" any given day, and very, very few get dui's etc.
this, my oldest son got one pulling out of his apt parking lot to go pick up a friend who was too drunk to drive, forgot to use his turn signal. he had only had 4 or 5 beers and wasn't drunk, but it put him over the legal limit.
When I shot IPSC I would drink a few beers before the match, I shot better because I wasn't as nervous.
Like playin' pool!
2 was always my limit for shooting pool. Any more and I’d get too relaxed and stop caring about winning and more about drinking beer.
Leighton and I ran the only pool table in Dewey's one night, my brother John or Nathan, and I have done the same and pissed people off. The later three carried me, I'm not bad, but not as good as them.

Atkins writes about shooting and alcohol at great length in his book "Unrepentant Sinner." He got pretty scientific with it.
Camp Perry and similar matches had "drinking tents" for a long, long time.
We used hired target pullers for the state HPR championships, 1st and 2nd relay had about 3 hrs in the middle of the day open so we would drive off base for lunch.
This was Stones bay Camp Lejeune so we go to a restaurant on the beach, mid 90's time frame.
The guy that drank the most at lunch was state champion later that day.
