GW I've worn the same type of hat that you have on in the picture for at least 10 if not 15 years they do keep the sun off but man they are HOT. that palm weave is TIGHT. I put three grommets per side in mine that seems to help some.
Edit I just saw the grommets in yours...oops.

I was all in until I saw the Serina Williams Co-Founder Popup.

I don't know who that is.
I did a search and it showed some black gal on a beach. Is she one of the owners?

White safari hat with a headband that is held 1/4-1/2" away from the hat like an army helmet's headband which allows air to circulate.

Oh no.
Well that narrows my future selection to make it myself with my camo and the pattern I have from the pre BLM era.....the good ol days.

Pith hat straw or plastic, or a postman hat first choice
Second is a Columbia sun hat
Third is SA straw hat

Here's another idea for the extra coverage when needed.

If you like the common ball hat but not the neck and ear coverage, here's a simple solution.
Take the lightest matching fabric available.
Cut to size and fold in 1" increments.
Iron flat.
Tuck in head band pocket.
When you need it mowing or working outside, just whip it out and tuck the top fold in the band pocket.

I am thinking the straw sombrero. I wear a khaki boonie hat myself. I remember my grandfather used to wear a styrofoam pith helmet doing concrete work. He said it was the best to work in.

This works well for me: https://www.filson.com/accessories/hats/twin-falls-travel-hat.html#sku=20077084-fco-000000052

Also, if I'm going to be out long, one of several very light weight cotton or synthetic long-sleeve shirts with SPF of 50.

If I'm going to be on or near the water, as in surf fishing, I'll add a synthetic neck gaiter. I don't like wearing all that stuff, but the heat of the direct sun just does me in anymore, and besides, I've found I'm allergic to sunscreen, even the "non-allergenic" zinc oxide types.

Funny this thread came up. I’ve been wearing a cheap boonie for several years. Either my head is getting bigger or it’s shrank from washing so much. Anyway, bought another cheap get me by last week until I can figger out what I want.

I’ve been less than smart in my early years so probably already some damage done, but I’m trying not to make things any worse if I can help it.
