150 NBT - 32" of penetration on an old 6x6. Ran 25 yards and died. Any load info with that Brad?

If you search for Ralphie you'll find a bunch of dead elk pics with 7mm-08. 140 NAB is his projectile of choice. About once a year I flirt with the idea of rebarreling my 308 to 7-08. Then I decide it ain't much change.

Then I decide it ain't much change. It would have been my choice in any of my 7-08's too. Unfortunately I've never had a 7-08 that would shoot that bullet well. The three or four (can't remember) different 7-08's I've worked with all preferred bullets heavier than the 140 accuracy-wise. The OP mentioned he only has150 Ballistic tips and 162 gr Hornady BTSP's... he won't go wrong with either of those.

I like the NABs a lot, but always felt the 150 BT might be the unsung hero in a 7/08. I have started using them.
Never had speeds that gave me the trajectory desired with 160-162s - in the loads and rifles I tried them in, but newer powders have since come out. The 150 BT in 270 was my go to, always outshot 130s and was deadly. Typical speeds were 2850 in the 270 fwiw.
Just read Noz has a new 150 NAB 7mm. Not sure what it may do at 7/08 speeds vs the BT, but it might be a star.
Brad 2700 was my target speed in Swedes with 140s. Your load should be very similar in performance.

Last load I asked you about was fro a 30-06 and it worked out great for me and the rifle. Be great if it only took me 6 shots again...

My goal for this Oct. bull hunt is a 140/150 TTSX with one of the 7mm Mausers.

My goal for this Oct. bull hunt is a 140/150 TTSX with one of the 7mm Mausers. I hope you have better luck with those bullets than I did. I couldn't get better than 2.5"/3" groups with them in my three 7x57s. I did get one good load with the 150 gr. Partition that shoots one inch of less depending on which of the two rifle that like it I'm shooting. The third which is based on a custom Mauser actually shows high pressure signs with factory ammo. I'm still trying yo figure out where the problem lis. I'm thinking it may be the very tight chamber. The other two rifles are a Ruger #1A and a push feed M70 Featherweight. Brass is Winchester as is the primer. Powder is Rl17. Paul B.

Paul- sometimes R17 just doesn’t work. I love the speed but it isn’t always accurate….

140 AB/partition is never a bad choice. Never shot the accubonds, but I can vouch for the 140 Partition in the 7-08.

For those that have used it on elk, what were your loads and bullets of choice? How did it do?
I have a buddy that is going to use his this year and he wants me to work up a load. Unfortunately I do not have access to too many different bullets due to the Biden fiasco. I do have 150 Ballistic tips and 162 gr Hornady BTSP. Anyway thank you I killed a large cow with a 120 Ballistic Tip from a 7-08. I drilled her behind the shoulder at 200 yards. She trotted 20 yards where and I hit her again as I wasn't taking any chances. When I cut her up I saw the second shot wasn't necessary. I'd be happy with either of the bullets you have as well as many others.

I would think anything similar to what I shoot in my 7X57 would work, namely a 160 grain Partition and a healthy dose of H4350.

Have only shot one cow elk with 7mm-08 with 24" barrel. 140 TTSX over Varget and 210M 2865 fps.

My best friend’s son has done great with some loads I made using 140gr Partitions and 44.5gr of Big Game. It kicks light and kills quick. Shots under 300 yards. He hit a raghorn at 175 yards and got an exit on a broad side shot. Then again, he got the same result on a cow using factory 140gr powerpoints.

Paul- sometimes R17 just doesn’t work. I love the speed but it isn’t always accurate…. Not very temperature stable either. Not according to what they say on the bottle. "Consistent max velocity in extreme weather conditions." I take it to mean a wide range of temperatures. I do all my load work ups in Tucson's very hot summers and hunt in freezing temps. Haven't had any problems so far but admit Rl17 is new to me. I would have had a chance to find out during January 2020 but a bad car wreck put me in hospital two days before leaving for the hunt. DAMMIT! Circumstances have kept me from being able to get out on another hunt since the accident. Paul B.

Fotis, are those the bullets you are wanting to use? As of a few minutes ago I know where there is 9 boxes of 150 grain Partitions, and 4 boxes of 150 grain GMX’s nearby here. Bullets not ammo. They aren’t SPS prices but they were there. Online midway seems to have TTSX’s.
