Afghanistan is now the new Tibet. A plan the chinese and the taliban have been working on for years. I suspect their cooperation goes back to when the taliban took over the country after 1991 and before they were chased out by American troops in 2002. This is nothing new to either the taliban or china.

My question is, are the Taliban leaders truly religious Muslims or more interested in money and power.
China sqashes Muslims in china so will the religious fanatics in the various tribal factions of the taliban be ok with that?
Also the Chinese will try to make sure they profit from the resources in Afghanistan, so will the tribal factions again be ok with Chinese infidel control of those resources?

I think Chinese-Taliban relations will start out great if for no other reason than to tweak the USA, and possibly hopes of financial gain. But once the honeymoon is over, it will blow up.

Dunno, just my thoughts

China and the Taliban will be a good fit for each other. China will set up shop and start exploiting the resources until the mutt factions get worked up again. After that it will be a mess all over again.

Well Biden is paying old debts with "Build Back Better". The Taliban just think they had a tough time with Russia and the feckless US occupancies. They're in for a big surprise.
This unholy alliance could be fulfilling a prophecy from the Book of Revelation.

My guess is Taliban leadership is more interested in money and power, and just use the Muslim label.
The various tribes doing the dirty work are religious fanatics to one degree or another who have shown a historic penchant for going at each other .

The strongest factor in their cohesive cooperation is if they have a common real or perceived threat or enemy.

India response to a Chinese - Taliban relationship will be interesting to watch as well.

I agree. China plays tough and feel they are a superior race, they may manhandle the tribes more effectively than the Soviets or the usa did, but history in that region is against the Chinese succeeding, it more than likely will just light the whole thing off.

That is an interesting take, I need to study up on Tibet history to make a comparison.

I am a little rusty on the Word, but this is looking like Revaluation unfolding.

Rare Earth metal, among other uses are essential for modern high capacity battery manufacturing. China is corning the market on such things, as well as other metals. They are in every country in southern Africa and South America that mines.

The CCP has a plan and this is part of it.
