It seems like at this point the Taliban have learned from both their past and the Iranians. They’re going to let the Americans and Afghan employees out. They’ll even let some of the government workers return under amnesty. They’ll get the westerners gone and get their people in place before they settle their scores. Smart of them. They keep the chaos to a minimum and make it hard for the west to economically sanction them. Yeah, sanctioning all $2000 of their economy would go rough on them...  and they’re going to have very valuable minerals to sell. The Taliban leadership spent a couple years in Quartar got to live in a functioning country. These guys aren’t Mullah Omar goat herders. Then perhaps they can repay us for what we spent in their country.

Seriously, why would or why should the Taliban just let those Americans waltz right through that country and into the airport? Every single one of those people is worth BILLIONS of dollars. They have the power to bring down our government. Behead a few during prime time TV every single night for about the next six months and see what happens inside the US. There might be a damned revolution if Biden didn’t resign.
No foreign power in the history of our country has had this much leverage on us. And don’t think for one damned minute after Biden stood up there the other night and made his decision to pull out with no prior planning seem like a heroic gesture that he would EVER bring in more military force in that country. He isn’t going back on that. The Taliban is in the catbird’s seat as long as they want to be.

Hell the Vietnamese tried it. They kept POWs back to use as pawns against us later just like they had with the French. They just didn’t count on us being ruthless and evil enough to pretend they didn’t exist. This is too public for that to happen now. To many people getting text messages from people trapped in there for Biden and company to just pretend they don’t exist.

It’s very possible if not likely. I think the leadership has a plan but how firm their control of their goat herder poppy farmer army they have is a different story. Then there’s the fact that the leadership are wack fanatics that could lose their cool at any moment. I’m hoping they keep it together and it doesn’t become an American bloodbath. I’m certain the Taliban will eventually kill all their internal rivals.

You know, they aren’t up in the mountains anymore. They are bottled up in a city. If the Taliban did what you guys describe, and they may, and it would be very ugly - we could deploy forces, cut off their escape routes and none of them would have to get out of Kabul alive. I would think those plans would be well under way already. Of course, given who is on charge, I am likely giving credit where it isn’t due.
