You want a big lake to fish. Any preference on species?
You're spoiled on them big Lahontans, eh? Me like kokanee & trouts... Dworshak would be ok, but it gets big draw downs...I think. Orofino is Dogpatch-West. That's not all bad. I'd like somewhere like this...

Sand point! I just got home from there. Seemed like a nice place.

Bb We like it there and have friends in Sandpoint. They own Sandpoint Pawn. The housing costs have gotten out of control there and throughout all the panhandle. We had a small house on a great lot in Bayview but sold it 1 1/2 year ago. That was not a smart move on our part, but on our small fixed income we couldn't maintain two houses. It's worth a small fortune now. It took me 6 minutes from my front door to drive to the marina and get onto my boat. It was on 1/3 acre, and it had a guest cabin (lower left in photo). We spent money fixing it up and ended up needing to sell it.

I haven’t read through this thread but the higher altitude areas of AZ would have bird hunting and some lakes. Without getting to extreme in cold temps if you pick the right area.

I like Lewiston and Moscow, but no big lakes close by. Dworshak resovior isn't exactly small and it's nearby Not to mention the Snake, Columbia, and Clearwater rivers. There's Riggins I'd, right on the Salmon River. Or Grangeville up on the hill with just a skip one way to the Salmon or a skip the other way to the Snake River. Just trade your lake boat for an Aluminum river jet boat. Hell's Canyon is waiting.
People who choose to brew up their own storms bitch loudest about the rain.

Vernal Utah, Flaming Gorge Reservoir and world class fly fishing on the Green Fiver. Spectacular area. But I've only driven through and don't know about the bird hunting... Spent a couple of hours in Vernal eating and re-stocking my cooler. Loved the town and the folks I met.

Bruce,
Have you considered doing the snowbird thing? A place in central South Dakota from April through about Christmas? Then winter over on someplace like the gulf coast?

I love that area. I was there yesterday. Anything south of I-90 on hwy 3 is outstanding and there's lots of lakes. I enjoy Idaho but it's definitely getting crowded. I'm considering living on my superyacht fulltime or at least near full time.
