This has bothered me for years:
Why did DAC spend the summertime cuttin' up logs for the winter if they had a coal-burning stove - no natural gas? Did they have a firewood bidness on the side?
Also, if the old man worked on the neighbor's cars and sold tires for a dollar or two, cash, & they presumably had enough money to buy coal for the coal-burning stove, why didn't they purchase a tube of silicone & seal those 50 holes in the old tin roof?

Did the older sister - the one that's a first-rate whore - contribute anything to the family & if not why? Was it b/c Dad got violent and he knows it or is it b/c she had a drug habit & needed the cash for more drugs?

1. Coal was for the cooking stove. 2. No firewood bidness....it was for the winter....since the coal was for the cooking stove. 3. The $ from tires and working on neighbor's cars was for Pearl in a can, Jack Daniels Black, and Mail Pouch tobacco. None was left for silicone.

What was his mom in prison for? Probably b/c she got tired of helpin' the old man and having blood flow from her calloused hands. She very likely hauled off and walloped the old man upside his haid, but I cannot say for sure.
