Given the current situation, I would snatch up whatever powders suitable for the 270 I could find.
RL17, H4895/4350/4831, Big Game, Magnum, and some of VV powders are temp stable, too.

Accuracywise, H4831 and N165

Speedwise, Magnum and N560

Many powders I have not shot, though.

I'd agree....it's not hard to get a 270 to shoot well enough to hunt with a number of powders.

4451 worked well for both in mine (130 -140)

Scotty mentioned that I am using R17 with 130’s. Manufacturers data shows maximum of 54. I use a little less and if it doesn’t shoot well then it’s a rifle issue. Have had same success with IMR4831. Those are the best for 130’s.

I also like R26 with 160 NP’s. If those don’t work you need a 375.

My Barnes manual shows 59.9 grs of Rel 19 with the Barnes 130gr TSX/TTSX gives 3211 from from a 24" Bbl.. My chrono shows 3219 fps with this load , superb accuracy & not the slighest sign of pressure.. I worked up slowly & was amazed at how this powder performed. Bullets seated .050 off the lands. Perfect.

In three different 270s with 130 and 140 grain bullets I've gotten my best accuracy with H4831SC. I used RL 17, IMR 4350, H4350 in all three as well with OK results but not anything like H4831SC. Reloader 26 was great for 150s. 61 grains gave 3000 fps with acceptable accuracy but not stellar accuracy. H4831SC was more accurate than RL26 as well with the 150 partition although velocity was closer to 2800 with what I considered to be a near max load.

IMO H4831SC is hard to beat in the 270 for 130 to 150 grain bullets. I would be curious to try RL23 at some point if this ammo components shortage ever gets sorted out

I agree with you for the most part, I have tried many powders over the years in several 270's and H4831SC has always been the accuracy king in every one of them..............I fell in love with RL26 because I can honestly get 200fps more velocity out of the 140-150gr bullets I have tried.....but not with quite the same accuracy.
The original H4831 that was around before the short cut version and the "EXTREME"era I think even worked better.

The 200 fps increase is mighty hard to ignore. I never tried RL26 with 140s, thanks for the heads up

I haven't had as good of results with H4831 (def good enough to hunt) in my rifles like I have with a few other powders;for some reason. I too would like to try RL23, if I ever see it on the shelf.

RL26 is magic pixie dust in the couple 270’s I have tried it in, giving best accuracy and velocity. I use 61 grains with 130 grain bullets and 59 grains with 150’s. Pretty much settled on the 129 LRX at 3100 FPS.

My only complaint is it turns a measly 270 into a slightly obnoxious outfit. For this reason, I also like to launch 130 interlocks at 2800 with H414 for my home state whitetails. They haven’t been able to tell the difference.
