I had a red one one time, but couldn't make myself wear it...I felt I looked too much like "Ed Geins", lol Jokes aside, yes it was warm and very comfortable.

I've a green one that gets worn over a thin balaclava. The hat is mostly there to shade my eyes.

I have a filson double mackinaw hat and it is perfect for those cold days where i want the visor of a hat, warmth of fur and the ability to shift into uninhibited hearing mode.
I would not buy something that runs on any kind of primer given the possibility of primer shortages and even regulations. In fact, why not buy a flintlock? Really. Rocks aren't going away anytime soon.
