We did not have a problem with feral horse populations when they were a staple portion of Alpo. The populations of fluffy poodle dogs in America is ever growing and would love to eat horse. It is shameful that the zoo folks have to buy expensive beef to feed their meat eaters and as mentioned Alpo was much better when horse meat was cheap and available. It is hard to get lions and such to eat salad. What is the problem with horse meat if beef is OK? I understand there is a tofu crowd out there against all meat eating (except by wolves) but I am not addressing them. All that soy estrogen has made them crazeee.

An old co-worker often butchered and sold burger and sausage by work of mouth. A farmer and tied in with a local buyer, he has access to all kind of animals. Given a chance (price) he would buy anything that was pretty nice, and butcher it. Llama bologna was really good.
Anyway, he was on a kick looking for a nice horse. I told him I'd love to buy 10# of nice steaks. His mother caught wind of the plan and talked him out of it, she was worried about people finding out and the trouble it would cause.

Interesting that you would mock others’ choice of animals they will or won’t eat. What does your modern interpretation of the Old Testament say about horse flesh?

I was in the Red Desert in Wyoming last week and the "Wild" (feral) horses were thick at the water holes. They ought to start up some horse slaughter houses again. Some folks tried here in Wyoming Th, but the bleeding hearts horse lovers got the ears of certain Representatives & Senators and it got shut down before it started. The Wild Horse & Burro act needs to go away. They ain't wild, they're an invasive species.

BGG,
I don't follow Old Testament law. Eat the heck out of a pig, Have 5# of snow crab and 4# of Gulf Shrimp waiting in the freezer.
So an equine ribeye would be ok.
No idea of Hastings beliefs.

Interesting though that the native equine species of North America was wiped out several thousand years before the White man reintroduced it.

Yep. Ain’t no such thing as a wild horse in the U.S. 100% true An invasive species. It would be fitting if a "Pigeon Fever" wiped them out

Saw my first feral horses over in the desert at Goldfield NV a couple weeks ago. They looked very healthy. Very skittish as soon as they saw my truck they bolted and were long gone in a cloud of dust.
