Barry, do you know what that cost new in 1914? I saw one site that said they cost between $15 and $20... Inflation? Let's Go Brandon! Yep, and a gold double Eagle would buy the pistol and the gun store would probably throw in a box of cartridges, too. As they say, "Long ago and far away." L.W. I've used that Double Eagle reference before too, LW! Still can walk in and throw an ounce of gold on the counter and walk out with a new Colt 1911...

Neil Grips are in great shape. I'd hate to mess with anything. Lots of hand oil in those grips...

Not trying to start an argument, but a lot of the commercial 1911s in that time frame were sold to Canada, for their officers to purchase (they were already in "The Great War"), and needed pistols, too. I think the number was 5000, but I might have mis-remembered that number. Colt sold a heckuva lot of pistols around that time, everyone wanted them.

That is a nice pistol and cool that your family has kept it and passed it along.
I just learned that the Hunters Campfire is solely a political forum{grin]

From what I can tell, it was made in the 3rd year of production 1914. Has been in my family since 1914 as well. All original. Grips, 2 tone magazine with lanyard ring. Pistol was carried more than shot. It's got a patina, but locks up tight, doesn't rattle, and has great rifling. Just thought I'd share. I love old Colt's! That's a neat old Colt. Say, you ever hear of 'Cerakote'?? (just kidding)
