Sweet...Just bought one in stainless. I think I could have had it in stainless when I bought it. I probably should have. Less worry about wiping it down all the time. Wiping a gun down after use is like patting a good dogs head after a job well done. No worry at all. Osky

There's some cold blue on it, not sure if that's even worth the effort.

I never do that with a Glock (all Glock gens get a great rust preventative treatment at the factory) or a stainless gun, but with a blued steel gun, it's a must.

Improving. Shooting this gun feels a little like cheating.

Rather unusual to see a blued Ed Brown. I looked for a blued Special Forces for years but never found one. I gave up and purchased a 1.5 Les Baer UTC, sans FCS. Great pistol-a as well.

Whooboy! That's one cobra that I wouldn't mind handling. I wonder why more companies don't do slide serrations like that?

Back when I bought it, in the late 1990s, I think the blued model was pretty standard. I believe they offered stainless also, but the main offering was blued steel. Not having any failures of any kind, but I'm sure it's past time to replace the recoil spring. Anyone know the correct poundage for a Combat Commander?

Cut slide for reverse plug and guide rod from EB a few years later. I did the beavertail grip safety last year, EGW. I like carrying it but it weighs as much as my EB Executive Carry! It has some sentimental value so I'll hang on to it.

I had an Officer’s ACP back in the 1980s, pre-Series 80. Bought it used, but it appeared to be in good condition. I didn’t know much about 1911s back then, or it would have occurred to me to switch out all the old springs when it wouldn't function reliably. Instead I sold it. The next owner probably knew it just needed new springs.

Yes, the short guns are hard on springs, I did replace the firing pin stop with a square bottom one. That slows the slide considerably. I traded off a Sig Ultra Compact, never could get it reliable. Even sent it back to Sig. They did nothing, sent it back saying it was good. I bought some of their .45 ammo and it failed to extract same as my loads or other factory stuff. Fitted a square bottom firing pin stop and replaced extractor and spring with EGW parts. It was almost 100% after that but by then I was ready to send it on. Other than the Officers I'll stay with full sized guns and a Commander or two.
Thanks for posting up your pics, you have some very nice stuff.

Mine was ivory. It's skin was translucent enough to see some of the organs with a back light. It loved hooding up. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iKdrhU-zVFs

Hawkeye,
Marc Krebs is the first to come out with the snake skin pattern. We talked at length about it in the late 80s+/-. It was good to see Ed Brown produce that and add the extra features. The bobbed tail is a nice custom touch too.

Yes, the short guns are hard on springs. That, and the fact that the shorter the slide, the smaller the range of spring power that the action will function reliably with, i.e., they become much more sensitive to springs not being just right in terms of poundage strength. A full length, all steel, Government Model can have springs way out of spec and still work fine, for example.

Every frame on Ed's 1911s start as stainless forgings. Even the "blued" ones. They're not blued but a metal treatment he does in house. Ed is my neighbor. For about 3 years I machined all of the raw frames flat, drilled and reamed the grip screw holes in the frames then they were ready for the majority of the machining. He was an excellent man to do business with. Some have a dislike for him due to his personality but when it comes to honesty in dealings and a knowledge of manufacturing few come close to Ed. He's retired now and his sons are running the show. They have some tough shoes to fill too.
