Safety factor? It’s like motorcycling and hang gliding all rolled into one.

Like a typical drone, but larger, and with the controls inside the cockpit instead of held by the guy on the ground. They started making vehicles like this in the 1980s (Popular Mechanics did an article back then demonstrating and discussing them), and they were set to catch on like wildfire, when the FAA declared that you will need a pilot's license to operate one, and that its operation will be restricted by their regulations. That's why we don't all commute to our jobs in them today, like on The Jetsons.

Yeah just the latest attempt.
Ultralite aircraft, powered parachutes, jet packs, etc.
It catches everyone's attention, but the plain fact is, most people are unable to fly them without killing themselves.
Kinda takes the allure out of something when the reality of surviving hits.

Another problem that has always plagued vehicles of that type is range. Most barely have enough power to get off the ground with a human payload, and can't carry enough fuel for more than a few seconds of flight.

Technology has solved a lot of that.
Think flying a drone today vs a remote control airplane in the 90’s.
One is quite difficult, the other, a six year old can do it.

Here's a dozen more personal flying machines. Some look great, some not so much. Some are somewhat affordable, some are for the Elon Musks of the world.
