Our 2006 F150 crankcase filter is a bear to get off.

I looked at a K&N yesterday that did not have a nut.

Any brands that do?

So, what you've got is an Almond Joy and you're looking for a Mounds. wink

This works on any size spin-on filter- - - - -oil, fuel, coolant, etc. It takes a 3/4" open end wrench or a 1/2" square drive ratchet or breaker bar. I use one to change the canister type water filters we use at home. Can't get a link to post- - - -copy and paste.

I've spent a lot of money on tools to remove that filter!

I exclusively use K&N filters and the Performance Wrench Off filter has the "nut".

O rings some time melt on and can be a PITA to remove. I hand tighten, but usually need a wrench to remove.

I have end cap oil filter wrenches for all the oil filters I change. Makes it real easy to install and remove oil filters using a 1/2" ratchet.

In my 62 years of changing oil filters I have never had an oil filter gasket melt.

Most likely installed too tightly from the get go

Spin on filters always go hand tight as ^ ^ posted ^ ^
previously
I always do an extra 1/4 turn or so, but never any more.
The only times I've ever had trouble removing a filter
was when I didn't have time to do my own work, and
some pinhead did it. Same with wheel lug nuts.

As said ^ ^ always always check for the gasket to
stay with the filter, and check the mounting surface
for any debris. I always wipe it with a clean rag and
feel of it with bare fingers to make sure it's bare
clean metal. THIN coat of oil on the new gasket.
